@depereoAlex @smallcirclesjust small circles 🕊 I also like the idea of continuing to use or to redesign/reuse projects that are no longer actively developed. In my opinion, some of the best FLOSS programs aren't actively maintained. NanoLinux did a great job recycling older FLTK based applications, improving them to get create a FLTK based Linux distro. Would love to see groups pick up where NanoLinux left off.

Sorry for linking to Substack, but this one is so very good:
garymarcus.substack.com/p/a-kn

A few excerpts:

Apple has a new paper; it’s pretty devastating to LLMs.

Whenever people ask me why I (contrary to widespread myth) actually like AI, and think that AI (though not GenAI) may ultimately be of great benefit to humanity, I invariably point to the advances in science and technology we might make if we could combine the causal reasoning abilities of our best scientists with the sheer compute power of modern digital computers.

What the Apple paper shows, most fundamentally, regardless of how you define AGI, is that LLMs are no substitute for good well-specified conventional algorithms. (They also can’t play chess as well as conventional algorithms, can’t fold proteins like special-purpose neurosymbolic hybrids, can’t run databases as well as conventional databases, etc.)

Azure & DevOps Podcast: Michael Washington: The Nature Of Data - Episode 353

Michael is an ASP.NET and C# programmer who has extensive knowledge in process improvement, AI and Large Language Models, and student information systems. He is also the founder of the following websites, BlazorData.net, AIStoryBuilders.com, and BlazorHelpWebsite.com — fantastic resources that help empower developers. Michael resides in Los Angeles, California, with his son Zachary and wife, Valerie.   Topics of Discussion: [2:09] Michael shares his background, starting with his first applications created for his uncle’s company using Access 2.0. [3:08] Michael mentions his new project, Personal Data Warehouse, which is an open-source, free tool for managing data. [5:20] He explains the inspiration behind the Personal Data Warehouse, focusing on the importance of data for making human decisions. [7:48] Michael’s finding: the reason we collect data is so that a human being can use that data to make decisions. [9:42] The three phases of data: collection, transformation, and reporting, and the significance of the transformation phase, where data is processed to make it useful for decision-making. [12:45] Data warehousing techniques and tools, and the use of Parquet files. [13:14] Michael talks about the use of SQL Server Reporting Services for generating reports, which can be accessed through the application. He encourages developers to explore the Personal Data Warehouse and its open-source code on GitHub. [22:33] Scenarios and use cases for Personal Data Warehouse. [32:09] AI and Language Models in Data Management. [36:17] The need to be responsible with AI and not use it to harm people. [37:07] Michael shares his experience with various AI tools, including CoPilot, OpenAI, and Google Notebooks.   Mentioned in this Episode: — New Video Podcast! Email us at . Mitra v4.4.0 supports verification of RFC-9421 HTTP signatures. It is known to be compatible with @fedifyFedify: an ActivityPub server framework, but I haven't tested it with Mastodon or Streams yet.
Outgoing requests are still signed according to the draft-cavage. I don't plan to implement double-knocking, but something like FEP-844e could be supported in the future, though this is not urgent.

My implementation of a parser is available in APx library.

Hello Fedi friends!

I'm currently putting the finishing touches to the and I'm really moved to see how many foreign language subtitles it has thanks to the generous help of volunteers: a grand total of 11 translations (plus the original English).

Special thanks to @naclyPen for traditional Chinese subs and to @erikkempErik Kemp 🇪🇺🟥 for the Dutch ones.

I'll post a link to a blog post with the video tomorrow morning at around 10am CET.

Good night & thanks for all your support! 🌝✨

This section used to be called "Maintainers".

Well, what are maintainers in realms other than engineers working deep in the belly of the ship in the engine room, among oil and soot? It shouldn't be that way, and we can make sustainable once we realize how can all work and cocreate better in grassroots environments.

is a great analogy. Projects aren't 'dead' for instance when unmaintained. They may be just 'good enough' or value merely disperses, like in Nature.

Meme of governator Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2 giving the thumbs up 👍 Text says: "As a gardener I approve this message"

Back when Spadina had replaced the streetcars with buses I really missed the streetcars but now the streetcars are back all I can think is how much worse the bunching pattern is with the streetcars
