A problem with Firefox is there are certain mislabeled settings that are really secret "allow enshittification?" settings. Features like the ad-tracking spyware or the AI chatbot were enabled by default or not based on these settings. It's not always the same setting, and you can't predict what you need to check to avoid predatory new features. mastodon.social/@sarahjamielew

Vriska here says it's the "run experiments" feature, which Iโ€ฆ can't find nowโ€ฆ uhhhโ€ฆ what 60228.dev/@leo/114869324996910

@mcc what sucks about this dynamic is that they only need to violate user consent once for every subsequent decision they do present the user becomes at the very least ambiguously suspect. trust is fragile and they blew through it with a large % of their users for no real benefit.

If you are enabling an AI feature scanning all your emails, consider this will also scan the emails people have sent you. This information could include personal or otherwise legally protected information.

If this data leaks later (as it regularly happens with these systems), this could mean severe legal consequences for you down the road.

YOU are responsible for protecting the data of others under your custody.

This includes the messages and emails others send to you.

Question for #FediAdmin , especially the ones managing a single-user instance (or just with very few users):

How much RAM is currently using your fedi software, whether it is #Mastodon #Akkoma #GoToSocial or one of the fifty shades of #Misskey (and by RAM I'm meaning "in total", not just the software's main process, also the database and additionnai stuff)

It's really out of curiosity. For instance, soc(dot)breadcat(dot)run currently uses approx 4,5Gb (4Gb for Akkoma's main processes and ~500Mb for the DB, on Docker)

Repost appreciated :nice-three-hearts:

Kan de Fediverse de democratie, informatie en solidariteit in Europa ondersteunen en versterken?

@mcc was that you who posted about doing last year's advent of code and doing every puzzle in a different language as an opportunity to learn a bunch of different languages?

I stole that idea because I thought it was a good idea.

So far, I've done:

Day 1 in JavaScript. I know JavaScript. I just started in a language I knew in order to calibrate my expectations.

Day 2 in x84-64 assembly.

Day 3 in ARM thumb assembly.

Day 4 in C#.

Day 5 in Ada.

Thanks for the idea.

Much of the internet runs on systems written in the programming language C, but C has major security vulnerabilities.

Now, @amitamit levy, @mpmilanoMae Milano and @lschuermannLeon (dormant account), along with collaborators at Princeton and UC-San Diego, have created a tool, Omniglot, that safeguards systems while developers migrate them to safer languages like Rust.
