Came across this striking art piece in Bourke St Mall, #melbourne called Paid Attention by Huei Yin Wong. It’s designed to comment on the way the advertising industry profits from constantly taking our attention at no benefit to us. If you sit making unbroken eye contact with the messages about our attention choices on the screen, it pays out the equivalent of minimum wage for the time watched. Sitting there conspicuously staring at something silly in public for even less than 2 minutes was weirdly unsettling even though we’re constantly looking at silly stuff on screens

Today I received the coolest, most thoughtful gift. Twice.

My day started out when a friend traveled from far far away, and dropped by to bring me a package on behalf of @anyiaAnyia, queer girl 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈, whom they had just visited.

It was a beautiful *handmade* puzzle box, with three interesting locks built into it, and a *four-page* letter of appreciation—the amount of effort they put into making me feel special is extraordinary 🥰

Then, a couple hours later, a package arrived from my girlfriend. Inside were two lever locks. One from the 1830s, and one from the 1920s that is stamped with "Mastodon" 🥰 The 4-lever lock is now the oldest I'm my collection, and the Mastodon lock is the first 8-lever lock in my collection.

And finally, a couple hours after the package arrived from my girlfriend, I got to meet a new friend from Mastodon in person for the first time—which was its own present 🥰

So today I got to add five unique new locks, several good memories, and a new friend to my collections.

It was a good frickin' day 💝

My favourite experience regarding Wii homebrew so far has to be NetBSD. I wanted to use my Wii as a computer for a while now, and NetBSD being available as an operating system you can install and get going on an SD card and a Wii with the HBC is definitely the highlights of my Wii homebrew experience. I don't use my Wii much at the moment, as I don't even have a monitor I can use for my Wii yet, but I have used it for a while on a TV and it was nice.

Networking is a bit hard, at least on the Wii however. I tried to get WiFi included in as a Wii image of NetBSD to burn, this was during my time on FreeBSD, and I just couldn't compile it. I was doing something weird where I would alternate between GCC and clang but that would have been a waste of time once it got to booting.

Other than that, it was nice writing a fetch program entirely written in C using vi and man pages to get by. It was a nice break from writing things without an LSP to help, although I still love using modern features many editors provide, obviously excluding AI, so I will stick with that. I also found that Lua existed on it which definitely helped whenever I didn't want to write C.

First *BSD post in a while, as I forgot to talk about the time I used NetBSD. I'll probably talk about Linux more at some point but I wanted to talk about *BSD a little again. Try NetBSD if you get the chance!
