Thank you to the Alpha-Omega Project for the continued support. This work plays an important role in strengthening the security and long-term maintainability of the FreeBSD base system. We appreciate the partnership and the ongoing efforts to improve software supply-chain resilience across the Project.

Current dilemma:

My brother is, as always, making a yummy Thanksgiving dinner. Unlike other years, he's invited a few other folks to join us, after checking that I was OK with that.

But my brother and sister-in-law have both backed off on their Covid precautions, and I don't know anything about what these other folks are doing. My brother has agreed they could all take Covid tests before we get together.

Now: Do I take off my mask, or do I leave it on and take my meal outside to their patio? It'll be warm enough that I could certainly do that, but it's likely to upset folks a bit.

But I've had Covid zero times, and I'd really like to keep it that way, if possible. And yes, I’m fully vaxxed.

RE: hachyderm.io/@conjured_ink/115

I’m gonna boost this again cause we really haven’t gotten very many applications but we could really really use the engineering help, esp if you’re an experienced engineer.

We need more help for making @conjured_ink happen—a distributed e-commerce platform for indies that centers creatives and their needs, rather than just funneling them back into more exploitation. We’re also heavily focused on the ability of nsfw creatives to keep doing their work safely, something that is rapidly vanishing.

Open source drive bys are great but having a set of folks who are willing and able to commit to just 5 hours a week would make a world of difference for the project. Please take a look and lmk if you have any questions!

An excellent summary here via @AnnaAnthro about how the structures of our civil society have failed to stop ICE from becoming Trump’s Brownshirts.

The one thing the piece omits: someone •is• stopping ICE. It’s the citizens filling the streets, honking and shouting and filming and generally harassing ICE, doing the work our government has failed to do. If it were not for that response being so widespread, sustained, and forceful, we’d be in far worse place right now. mastodon.social/@AnnaAnthro/11

Site in Kenya reveals 300,000 years of uninterrupted toolmaking. Archaeologists uncovered nearly 1,300 stone tools spanning 2.44 to 2.75 million years, showing that early hominins taught and replicated the same techniques across roughly 10,000 generations. During this time period, the surrounding landscape shifted from lush, humid forests to arid desert shrubland and back again - and the hominins survived in part because of their toolmaking traditions. 404media.co/advanced-2-5-milli

This post describes an embarrassing medical situation. I am sharing it because my experience might be useful to others. However, it is only useful to you if you are (1) transgender or (2) have a uterus. If this is not you, then as a personal favor to me, please don't read this.

For about the last year I have had a horrible, painful, slowly escalating skin condition that mimiced pressure urcticaria (hives where clothing presses against the skin, like waistbands).

TLDR, it was progesterone. (1/3)

Rewriting Wily's code complexity analyzers in Rust. The Cyclomatic Complexity, MI, Halstead and raw harvesters are going to use Ruff's AST and Parser crates instead of Radon. It is (much) faster.
I'm doing this because I have a lot of code to analyze.

I love these kinds of art installations. 20 years ago I did an internship at a design agency in Stuttgart and they did stuff for museum exhibits for example. But there were a few artsy students in that company's "orbit" that pointed me to exhibitions for video and multimedia art like that.

One time, the "pain station" was on display. It was a simple pong video game but whenever you lost you got a slight electric shock or your hand got whipped by a spinning piece of string :-)

Floods across nine provinces in Thailand have killed 33 people and affected more than 2.7 million.

The military is helping with rescue efforts, including evacuating critically ill patients from a Hat Yai hospital.

Authorities in Thailand are sending helicopters to evacuate critically ill patients from a southern hospital marooned by some of the region's worst floods in years.

Soo , welcome to the reality show.

This is what happens every time it rains for the past three years. I'm tired of talking, pleading, and suffering. Nothing has changed in three years.
But this time we can make a difference, even if it's just a little! By participating and donating to the winter pajama campaign, we can keep these children warm.

I hope this stirs your conscience a little 💔‼️
