My mother taught me how to embroider towels and pillowcases when I was seven or so. She kept me in supplies and expected no less than perfect stitching. Less than perfect was ripped out and redone.
She sold my work to fund missionary programs for the church. After I mastered embroidery I leveled up to crochet and tatting to add lace edges.
In the 1960's and 70's I earned my own extra money embellishing bell bottoms for friends.
I gave up this kind of delicate work for years and years.
Until I lost my son. I took up my needle again and sewed dozens and dozens of towels to focus on something in hand.
When Summer came to live with us she filled much of that emptiness and I put the sewing away again.
I am starting again to craft a few gifts. It is something I can give without having to shop.
This time it's just for fun.

Yesterday l rode my bicycle from Ventura to Santa Barbara. 37ish miles with a mix of beach side bike paths, access roads, commercial streets, residential roads, and some dirt trails. I went through rich neighborhoods, transient hangouts, nature reserves, surfer parking lots, strawberry fields, and horse ranches. I even carried my bike over the #amtrak Surfliner tracks at one point.
It was an interesting ride! Not the usual fitness grind. I discovered a lot of areas that I see from the freeway usually. Finding my way was a bit complicated though. Lots of stops to look at a map.

Back in 1999, Bill Gates said that the popular open source operating system Linux was no threat to Windows. He said that Windows offered far more functionality and features than Linux ever would. He argued that Linux lacked a central point of control, as well as the protection, rich set of drivers, and GUI that businesses need. I found this very interesting because most of these things turned out to be false. Funny how things change just under 25 years? Just finished "Enshittification" by 
@pluralisticCory Doctorow, and despite it not telling me anything new, as I've been following him and this subject for a while, seeing all the case studies, the analysis, and Cory's proposed cure in a succinct, eloquent, and well argued overview was enraging, cathartic, and still hopeful.
I would definitely recommend it to most people, but especially to people who are not as familiar with all the tech nonsense as I am. I have the feeling I will be lending my copy to people regularly.
Oh, and the plug for the fediverse was nice to see.

19年反送中還有新冠三年時候的政治抑鬱在這兩天又卷土重來了。這麼多年過去那些記憶太痛苦以至於我選擇性地去模糊，為了自己的心理健康，也為了自己能夠在中國和香港生活下去，歲月靜好了很長一段時間。但是這幾天那種感受又回來了，睡不安穩，一刷到大家的求助就掉淚。
我的父母還有親朋好友為了下一代離開中國的沿海小鎮，在香港底層打工，希望給孩子更多的選擇和更好的生活，我也得以享受到了更文明之地給外來者的種種保障。在家鄉看多了身邊的親人勞作一輩子，最終既換不來金錢，還逐漸被社會拋棄。我奶奶說至少在香港你的勤勞是可以換來金錢，是可以換來什麼的。是啊，這座城市給了多少當初從中國內地逃過來的人們一個安家立業的地方。
今天給媽媽聊起這次大火，媽媽說以前香港不是這樣的，大家還是很珍惜生命的，不會為了錢做這樣的事情。什麼時候這裡也變得金錢至上了？工程公司為了貪錢偷工減料使用廉價的阻燃網，香港政府為了跟中國接軌不斷降低安全標準倒行逆施，對民眾的生命安全不管不顧。火不是一天燒起來的，早在大火發生之前，一切的一切就開始崩壞了。
宏福苑的居民一生勤勤懇懇打拼買樓，換來家人孩子有個屬於自己的家，一場大火燒得一乾二淨，是意外嗎？不，完完全全就是人禍，是被害成這樣的。媽媽說香港變得越來越像大陸了，很多人都離開了。對于這點我一直早就有心理準備，五十年不變，二十八年了，香港以不可置信的速度滑落，在這裡生活的人們一手建設的法治社會，現在淪落成這個境地。
難道又要逃嗎？我一直想，憑什麼逃離的是我們？我又無法選擇自己的出身，這輩子作為中國人難道我們的生命就是要被這樣踐踏嗎？難道我們只配擁有這樣的政權嗎？要這樣眼睜睜看著香港也下沉到跟中國一個地步嗎？
我相信火也在所有有良知的人心中燒著，不論我們是哪裡人，此時此刻我們同時點燃心中的怒火。
（打下這些文字我的心情平復了很多，翻閱以前寫的東西，我慶幸自己還在堅持著什麼。）
회사 중국분들이 좀 쉬엄쉬엄했으면 좋겠는데... 얘네들 장단에 맞춰주려니 너무 힘들고 흑흑 독일 미국분들은 쉬엄쉬엄하는데 중국분들은 그런거 없는듯... 어떻게든 좀더 좋은곳 가보려고 위로 올라가려고 하는 욕구와 의지가 음청나게 강한데 문제는 요새 어딜가도 다 중국분들이 50% 이상이라... 하하...
중국이 지금 당장 한국을 칠 명분은 거의 없긴한데 일본+대만에 뭔가 하려다가 한국도 어쩔수없이 건들게되는 전개가 나올수 있지 않나 하는 생각이 좀 드는데 ... 사실 중국이 좀 뒤로 물러나면 되긴하는데 중국이 지금 보면 내부 컨트롤타워가 제대로 작동이 안되는 느낌이 있음 시주석과 군부가 아직 서로 밀당하고 있는것 같고 등등 사실 정치인들이 자기 이익을 위해서 불을 더 지르는 느낌도 있고 등등

NX Studio, Pop!_OSでも文字化けを解消し、普通に使えるようになった。

ume fontはよくわからないがもう存在していないらしいので、かわりにIPAフォントを使った。あと最新のNotoフォントは、これもかつてのCJK JPという名前でなくJPという名前になっているので、レジストリ変更のデータはそれをもとに修正する必要がある。これでおおむね、すべてのwindowsソフトの文字化けは解消されたはず。
