I'm conflicted; I love the *BSD operating systems, and bsd.cafe, and still use NetBSD on at least one device, but I don't really represent a *BSD user anymore. This wouldn't be an issue regarding me using bsd.cafe if I wasn't as self-conscious as I am, but I honestly just don't feel like I belong in a *BSD space just to be repping Fedora. I do not mean to say that bsd.cafe is a toxic and unfriendly place, as I have nothing but good things to say about the community so far, but I feel like I have fulfilled my presence in the *BSD community, and I should try to represent FOSS in a space for FOSS as a whole instead.

For the people I have come to know from here, I greatly value your presence. Thanks for everything you have given me, even if it isn't a lot. I would also want to extend my thanks to the bsd.cafe community and administration for making me feel like I belonged in the first place. I wouldn't be where I am without you.

Viva les cafés! ☕

@KatyElphinstone Perhaps I’m betting on a stereotype here, and YMMV, but are there a board game meetups, anime clubs, entomology associations, or similar special interest organisation (whatever floats tou boat) in Belfast? It’d supprise me if a city of 350k people did not have at least one.

Not an answer to the question you asked exactly, but my very brief experience with ND org. meetups is that having the same difficulties with the world is not necessarily a good basis for friendships.

To make the "zfs list" output more script-friendly, you can suppress the
output of the headers for each column by passing the -H parameter:

zfs list -H

Another helpful option for script writers is -p, which displays the numbers
in non-rounded, exact values:

zfs list -p

@gnome The attitude. Devs for GNOME itself as well as third-party apps all seem united by an idea that software can and should always be made simpler to use. Instead of piling on features to solve edge cases, the problem space is reexamined, and old solutions are replaced by simpler ones which solve more problems.

A day in the life of a tech book writer.....

I'm currently updating the Production chapter in Django for Professionals. Quite a bit of newness but of course I focus on the opening paragraphs first. Look at the old version, hate it, spend 3 hours writing something else. Get lunch, return and read both. Go, old version wasn't so bad after all. Ultimate version will probably be 70/30 old versus new.

This is how updates go for me at least 😀

HEY CANADA.

MP Elizabeth May is sponsoring a petition to get Electoral Reform back in front of Parliament.

Could all of us who were utterly betrayed in 2016 when JT reneged on this please go put our electrons onto this one? yes, yes, the petitions don't mean a thing WILL happen, but there was already a good plan for this set out that got shelved. The longer we delay, the longer we risk what's happening in the US happening here.

"We think this is a pretty revolutionary development, especially in an era when AI is forcing computer memory prices higher and higher – some sources suggest memory has increased in price by 500%! If we can adapt computer memory demands, both RAM and storage, to sausage-based media, then every deli in America has the opportunity to become a data center! Every sandwich becomes removable storage! Supermarkets full of cold cuts and sausages and charcuterie could be tasked to data storage on demand!"

Tell your MP to attend the debate on

Nearly 3 million people signed the petition ‘Do not introduce Digital ID cards’ .

The government, however, is pushing ahead regardless of public concern. Democracy?

The government is at risk of creating a digital infrastructure that will fundamentally change how we live. What begins as an ID card could quickly expand into a system where we are forced to prove who we are as we go about our daily lives.

[1/2]

Image with text on the left side stating:

"Say no to Digital ID."

To the right are two, yellow, cow ear tags. Around the hole where it's attached to the cow's ear are the letters "UK" and then mimicking binary code with a series of 1's and 0's.

On the main area of the tag is, from the top:

A royal crown with the letters "UK" to the right.
Next line has a random 6 digit number (as seen on cow ear tags).

Last line is:

"GBR < DIGITAL < ID"

- Erik Marquardt (🟦)

And it’s a wrap for the Social Media Strategies track at 🇮🇹

I’m INCREDIBLY grateful to @morloi for giving us an opportunity to talk about the on the main stage.

And it was so cool to finally meet @niccoloveNiccolò Venerandi IRL. He’s so inspiring!

I hope we piqued the curiosity of people in the audience. About 1 out of 100 people had previously heard about the fediverse!
