Upyo 0.4.0 released. Upyo is an email sending library for Node.js, Deno, Bun, and edge functions. New in this version:

  • JMAP transport for modern email servers
  • DKIM signing support in SMTP transport
  • Message-level idempotency keys for reliable retries

My solution to the problem @jwz mentions:

1. Make password the •only• login field. No username/email! Just password, and you’re in!

2. Because they now identify users, passwords must to be unique across all users in a system.

3. For security reasons, require passwords to be unique across all sites on the entire Internet. A password can be used at most once in human history.

4. This renders account recovery impossible in many cases.

5. Over time, users are thus able to use fewer and fewer sites, eventually being forced offline altogether.

6. Success!

a Christmas carol makes more sense from a Buddhist perspective than a Christian one

the actual mechanism of Scrooge's transformation is way more Buddhist than Christian

there's no salvation through grace, no acceptance of a savior, no forgiveness of sins through faith

what happens is he's forced to see clearly.

he witnesses the causes and conditions of his own suffering and the suffering he creates. he sees dependent origination in action - how his choices ripple outward, how Tiny Tim's fate is entangled with his own actions

Ok, & geeks:

So, I use a combination a Firefox plugin & server settings to make sure all replies of threads I'm reading get downloaded for me to my local instance. Works great *except* it's really hard to keep track of what I read already & what I didn't. I just end up reading the whole thing over & over.

What I'd love is a way to “subscribe” (i.e., “follow a thread”) & have any reply on the thread put into my timeline.

Is there such a thing?

All I want for Christmas is for you to buy me a coffee to help enable my out of control coffee addiction. When I am holding my 7th mug of the day with shaking hands I want to be able to say "This isn't my fault. It's because of the generous stranger on the internet. They did this to me."

If this seems contradictory, consider that maybe a whole bunch of longtime, professional programmers are in fact novice users of programming tools, entirely separately from their skill at performing programming tasks. I think, to a large degree, we did this ourselves with endless real-programmers-use-butterflies gatekeeping.

We're more than 2 years deep into this bullshit hype wave. And still, the only concrete examples of anyone using it for anything with discernable value is stuff like "it renamed a module!" and "it did a mostly correct refactor!"

Stuff that my IDEs have been doing trivially, correctly, and deterministically for longer than my entire career. But real programmers use butterflies, so they wouldn't know that, I guess
