One of the "innovations" I hate most are cameras on phones. Don't debate me, I am prepared to die on this hill!

Please don't take pictures of people without their consent!

Please don't point your phone's camera at other people's faces, even when you're not taking pictures!

And please remind those who are not using their phone's camera responsibly why they should!

Thank you for caring about everyone's privacy!

@r_albRaphael Albert one of the best people-filters I have is: is the person mindful of their camera use and do they take into account my strong preference to not be in photos after I voice that preference.

In my experience the minority of people who will either debate me on this, insisting that they can basically take photos of whatever they want, or just silently ignore that preference very often turn out to be the people that are really worth avoiding for all sorts of other reasons.

sooo idk yes i agree “bsky default feed feels ass compared to third party” is sort of a win for bsky the mission idk if it’s a win for bsky the product. i think it would be nice to get a non-ass feed with zero clicks without being a feed nerd

I'm curious how much collective responsibility we have for pointing out LLM output when we see it.

I, for one, am glad when someone identifies that an image or video has been generated. I'm not as good as others at identifying those. It helps me learn, but it also helps me not promote/boost such content.

I am, however, familiar with the patterns of LLM text. I'm a little flabbergasted when nobody says, "Why did this have to be AI?" or "This is AI" or "You could have just quoted from the article and linked to it instead of putting it wholesale into an LLM and generating a summary before providing the link."

Do people not see it or don't they care?

Do I (or any of us) say something for the sake of others, or just block?

Does it help you when people identify it when you don't see it?

there’s also a question of incentives. the more successful a feed is, the more resources it needs to run, so at some point getting to the top or being promoted at onboarding is not necessarily that positive for a hobbyist

I like this quote in "From Zero to QED":

"The honest truth is that most people do not need dependent type theory or formal verification for their day jobs. But necessity is a boring criterion for what to learn. People study ancient languages, play chess, learn to cook elaborate dishes, prove that there are infinitely many primes. The question is not whether you need something but whether it interests you."

Did you know that I have a website where I curate apps, websites, and resources for not only the Fediverse (ActivityPub) but for ATProto as well?

Check it out here: fediverseresources.com?ref=pro

I'm always looking for contributors and assistant curators. Reach out if you're interested.

i think “choose your own feed” can be user-friendly if - it’s clear what choices are - it’s clear the thing you’re seeing is actually the one you chose before - there’s clear ways to deprecate or replace it, people aren’t stuck with broken or defunct feeds i don’t think the app delivers on that

another thing that didn’t work out is that the company that ran it pivoted pretty soon and so the feed was essentially abandoned. as a courtesy (iirc) it was switched to serving Discover but in a sense it was a dead tab. too bad for folks who chose it as a default and forgot that’s what they did

ironically that third party feed was also called “For You”. it was suggested as one of the options in onboarding one problem with options in onboarding is the user has zero context on how to evaluate those options. you’re a new user, those feed names mean nothing to you, what “choice” is that?

Unicodeにノンバイナリーを表す漢字「X也」が追加されたそう。韓国語の漢字で漢字とハングルの組み合わせは見たことはあるけど、漢字と西洋の文字の組み合わせってほかにあるのかな?

Here are my 2026 social web predictions:

1. ActivityPub API spreads.
2. E2EE flourishes.
3. First draft of ActivityPub 1.1.
4. More investment by governments.
5. One more big company joins the Fediverse.
6. LOLA grows.
