@nelsonNelson Lopez I am blind. Seeing people who think I'm not worth the effort fill my timeline with AltBot generated AI stuff that isn't even accurate in lots of cases.

Human alt text is always better, because it doesn´t focus on ocular seeing. Seeing people think, and AltBot was designed around that notion, that blind people must compensate for missing "eye-seeing", but that's not the case. I am interested in the meaning of an image to you, its maker or publisher.

Again, human alt text is better, also because it strengthens reciprocity between seeing and blind people. AltBot doesn't but it makes seeing people believe they have done their bit for accessibility. In actuality, the reverse is often true.

i don’t quite buy the argument that people who criticize ai are doing so from a position of privilege just because they may possess certain skills and even feel threatened by it.

if you would like something done for you, and it turns out you rely on stolen/underpaid labor, environmental destruction, and scam economics to do so, that’s not exactly the kind of magical liberatory politics you might think it is. it’s just not particularly well hidden arbitrage

Somewhere just outside Paris, a woman sighs in dismay as Word crashes for the third time.

Somewhere in the US our hero, sensing his time has come, suddenly becomes alert. He leaps into action, waking up his Thinkpad (he uses arch btw), and scours the web for his damsel in distress.

He immediately offers to help diagnose the problem. Nodding to himself, it's what he thought.

"You need to switch to Linux"

As quickly as he appeared, he vanishes back into the night, satisfied he's saved the day.

I really wish everyone would stop making fun of the people they don't like based on their physical appearance.

We really need to collectively grow up from this high-school bully mindset.

When you use appearance instead of ideas and behaviors to criticize someone, even someone deserving mockery, you are also shooting at everyone who might look like them, even the ones that might be incredibly good people.

There is more than enough content to talk against when it comes to the tyrants that currently surround us. Talk against their ideas, their words, and their actions. Be relentless for that. But their physical appearance is irrelevant to their moral deficiencies.

Mock their words, but not their looks.

I've tried everything I can think of today to get my Minitel to work as a Linux terminal, GPIO's with a level shifter, a USB serial dongle. No luck at all.
I have gotten this working previously, which is only more frustrating as it worked well. Not sure what to do tbh! 😴

I feel like the power of a network during a job search is higher than ever.

"Do you want to do spend weeks hiring people that could be a weak AI interface? Do you want to maybe hire a North Korean Operative routing through a laptop farm in Virginia? Or do you want to hire Jimmothy who used to work with Timbo at place?"

I don't think this is a good situation. But I think it may be the situation.

2. The Facebook effect, where people publicize life highlights, but don't bring up struggles nearly as much, and withdraw from public AND private life when ill or disabled, largely because of how we treat illness, disability, and poverty in this country.
So you'll see people posting about their new job or new baby, but not so much new chronic fatigue / autoimmune symptoms, loss of employment and eviction notice. You'll get an invitation to a wedding, but not to the hospital. Etc.

Well people don't want to hear it.
I tried being real on Facebook. People either ignored me, or told me to stop it.
People don't want REAL. It reminds them how fake they are, and bloody hell, have you ever reminded people of their bullsh!t?
Not something they appreciate, even accidentally by existing and being yourself, don't you dare remind them of what they know they should be doing, like giving a f*** about their fellow human beings... Or you know, themselves to start.
