One thing I LOVE about Ontario is that public school teachers are paid fairly well. (Although it's stagnated a bit, and per student capita funding has dropped at least 10% since Doug Ford.)

Some of the best teachers I've met in Toronto work in some of the roughest schools.

You can get a decent education anywhere in the city for free. A wealthier school might have more field trips and fundraised equipment, but otherwise, it's comparable.

Private schools aren't as much of a thing here as one'd expect from the financial capital of a country. Many higher income families still send their kids to public schools.

In order to maintain this level of equality, we need to maintain public school funding levels.

I wonder how much TypeScript's terrible error messages have soured people on static types.

I can imagine many web developers (and designers) only contact with static type system is TypeScript.

Sure, static type errors in things like C++ templates or Rust lifetimes can get gnarly, but typical statically languages like Kotlin, Java, C#, C, etc don't get these kind of error messages anywhere near as fast as you do with TypeScript.

Kurzum: Wow – mit so viel Feedback hätten wir nicht gerechnet. Anzahl und Ton einzelner Beiträge führt uns vor Augen, dass wir Euch noch eine Erklärung schuldig sind. Und ja, wir können absolut nachvollziehen, dass Ihr nicht zufrieden seid mit dieser Entscheidung. Daher lasst uns unseren Schritt genauer erklären und Transparenz herstellen:

Was braucht eine funktionierende Kommunikation auf Mastodon? Wir sind der Meinung, dass Kommunikation in den sozialen Netzwerken nur dann gelingen kann, wenn wir gemeinsam ins Gespräch kommen. Doch Fakt ist, die Kommunikation in den Sozialen Medien verteilt sich heute auf immer mehr Soziale Plattformen. Im besten anzunehmenden Fall wäre eine Verbraucherzentrale in der Lage Menschen auf allen Plattformen zu erreichen. Doch wir befinden uns nicht in dieser Situation. Denn Fakt ist auch, dass wir ressourcenschonend mit unseren finanziellen Mitteln umgehen müssen. Wer unsere Arbeit auch auf anderen Kanälen verfolgt, hat bemerkt, dass wir uns von Twitter/X bereits zurückgezogen haben – wenn auch aus anderen Gründen – und auf wieder anderen Kanälen unsere Communities extrem gewachsen sind. Was man bei alldem aber nicht vergessen darf: Als Landesverbraucherzentrale können wir nicht auf unbegrenzte Ressourcen zurückgreifen. Eine Mitarbeiterin leistet die komplette Arbeit im Bereich Social Media: von Themenrecherche, über die Produktion und das Ausspielen auf unseren unterschiedlichen Kanälen, bis hin zum Community Management. Jede und jeder, der in der Kommunikation arbeitet weiß: Social Media allgemein und insbesondere Community Management ist keine Sache, die man mal ebenso nebenher macht! Wir verstehen unsere Social-Media-Kanäle als Orte des Austauschs, des gemeinsamen Kommunizierens. Diesen Anspruch, den wir an unsere Arbeit richten, können wir aktuell nicht leisten. Wir machen keinen Hehl daraus, dass wir unsere Inhalte für Facebook und Mastodon produziert haben – eben um den Arbeitsaufwand den personellen Ressourcen anzupassen. Diese Mehrfachverwertung wurde in den vergangenen Wochen aus der Community eher negativ beäugt. Das ist verständlich – sind auch wir nicht glücklich mit dieser Art von Content-Produktion und Community-Management. Wie ihr seht: Es ist keine leichte Entscheidung gewesen. Auch auf menschlicher Basis hadern wir gerade damit, aber es ist weder für den Inhalt noch für den Austausch mit euch aktuell zufriedenstellend. Inhalte von uns findet ihr wie gewohnt auf unserer Homepage www.vzsh.de. Und wir hoffen natürlich, dass wir in naher Zukunft wieder in der Lage sind, Euch auch auf Mastodon mit Tröts zu versorgen.
