Hey, remember that time in 1938 when Britain's Neville Chamberlain met with Adolf Hitler and, being convinced that ol' Adolf just wanted Czechoslovakia and nothing else (despite the anchluss of Austria a few months before), signed the Munich Agreement, which basically allowed the nazis to invade Czechoslovakia?

And then Chamberlain returned to England having just signed the Munich Agreement and told crowds in London the Agreement meant "peace in our time?"

Not sure why that's come to mind lately.

Also, why is Greenland in the news so much lately? Is something happening?

Neville Chamberlain, Adolf Hitler, and Benito Mussolini, just prior to signing the Munich Agreement.
NOT PICTURED: any Czechoslovakians.

I once came across an internal web app that allowed users to enter a date in any format and then stored it exactly as entered, without any validation instead of ISO 8601. The code would then try to apply the correct display format at runtime. It was the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. And before you ask: noop, I didn’t fix it. In fact, I pretended I didn't see it. Nobody ever gets paid extra for fixing someone else's mess and experience taught me this the hard way. I ain’t touching that s**t 😛

Michigan's 1-96 is shutdown both directions between Zeeland and Hudsonville after a pile up of more than 100 vehicles amid winter weather.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office has said that there are multiple injuries, although it's unknown whether any are fatal at this time. Vehicles involved include cars, semi-trucks and tractor trailers.

The president of just resigned somewhat unexpectedly. Why so? He has decided to create his own party (likely a populist one) and run in the upcoming parliamentary elections. We've had 7 of those in the last 5 years and the fun never ends!

I don't like him one bit, as it seems he's in russia's pocket, but he's fairly popular overall - mostly because he always tries to position himself as someone fighting corruption.
The next 3 months will be... interesting...

Wrap up 2025
February 4/4

In the last week of February, we reached Lima, the capital of Peru. In Barranco, a very beautiful, colorful neighborhood located in the south with an ocean front, we rented a small apartment. It felt good to have a base again, and here each of us could also do something on our own - stroll through the neighborhood, discover murals and colorful houses, have coffee in one of the many charming cafes, and look out over the sea from the Malecon...

There's a kind of chile that is either called a pasilla or a poblano depending on who you ask. Pasilla is more common but my family always said poblano. The grocery I shop at in rural Arizona has mostly moved to self checkout so I was ringing up my order and without thinking about it rang my chiles as poblanos. I guess no one ever updated the price on the poblano side because the two big chiles I got for lunch ended up costing 6¢.
