today.yougov.com/politics/arti

Pictured is a 430 million-year-old Silurian Dalmanites caudatus from England. This 2.5-in- (6.4-cm-) long specimen was preserved in rock that, when carefully opened, revealed positive and negative splits! Notice that this trilobite is slightly disarticulated? A small brachiopod shell became wedged between the trilobite's head and body, causing them to separate.

via amnhnyc

Image Description
On the left is the positive split: A brown trilobite fossil is protruding from the surface of a beige stone. The trilobite has an oval-shaped body with a ribbed carapace; its head is smooth and rounded; its hind-end has a sharp point. On the right is the negative split. An indentation of the trilobite fossil can be seen in the stone; there's also a sea shell on the upper-half of the stone.

"Dear Jonas: Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America," Trump wrote in his response, which was seen by Reuters.

"Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a 'right of ownership' anyway?"

"There are no written documents, it's only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also."

"I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland. Thank you! President DJT."

🇺🇸 Leading economist teaches Europe how to cripple Trump

“Europe should respond to Trump’s blackmail with targeted measures aimed not at American consumers, but at American billionaires,” “Access to the European market—by billionaires and the companies they own—should be made conditional on paying a wealth tax: in effect, a tariff for oligarchs. If Elon Musk, for example, wants to keep selling Teslas in Europe, he should have to pay it. If he refuses, Tesla would lose access to the European market."

@inthehandsPaul Cantrell not a mental health professional here.

I've read that experiencing events as a series of snapshots or discrete scenes is a telltale sign of war trauma.

Just in case anyone outside of your area things "oh how cute they're getting scrapbooks of memories" - no, this is what happens when the brain is highly stressed and searing some memories indelibly while suppressing retention of others, because knowing where the potentially lethal threat is coming from must be retained, and other memory production is impaired (possibly as a survival mechanism to later have less conscious trauma to process).

"The first duty of any government is to keep its people safe. In today’s unpredictable world, that will not be achieved by clinging to outdated notions of security, or by cowering at Trump’s feet in the hope that he will protect us. It requires confronting the threats facing us head-on – from Putin’s imperial ambitions and Trump’s insatiable demands, to cyber warfare and the destabilising effects of climate breakdown."

As news of the massive solar storm makes the rounds, my belief is once again reaffirmed that the Northern Lights are an icelandic tourism conspiracy, because we're way north with a very dark patch of sky and there's sod all out there.

On the other hand, it turns out to be an incredibly clear night, and the sky is just _full_ of stars, more than I've ever seen with the naked eye.

So, I didn't see the aurora, but otoh I got to stand under the Milky Way in full bloom for a while, and that's pretty good.
