NDP MP Leah Gazan is backing a petition to have the federal government intervene in the matter of the unwarranted and anti-trans restrictions on gender affirming health-care in Alberta arising from Bill-26.

The petition (E-7005 (Healthcare)8) dropped yesterday, and I haven’t seen any mention of it cross my scrolls yet, so please boost this hard and wide.

Full details and link to signing at :

Again, please sign, boost, and share widely!

Friendly reminder that Mastodon, et al is federated, which means you almost certainly won't see every reply on a thread.

Let's say you're reading a post from "reasonable.domain". And someone from "cesspool.domain" replies to it. If your instance blocked "cesspool.domain", you won't see that reply.

This effect minimizes the appearance of harm. It can be a blessing, but it also means you won't always see the problems inherent on these platforms.

FOSDEM 2026 (Brussels): Sun Feb 1, 09:35 CET, UB5.230 (my last talk)

Accessible Sovereignty: Why the Four Freedoms Depend on Inclusion (Community devroom)

Thesis: the Four Freedoms are not real if people with disabilities cannot use the tools, study them, share them, and improve them in practice. Accessibility is the operational layer that makes software freedom exercisable.

Ugh. Apple is now advertising on my Settings app that if I move to their AppleCare One subscription, I could possibly save some money.

Ughhhh. Why is software so shit these days?! 🤦‍♂️😡 there should be zero damn ads on premium products. Or is iPhone Pro just not a premium product anymore and more of a Microsoft product?

RE: mamot.fr/@ungarage/11593905837

I am speaking with Maurice Hendriks at :

“Procurement Is the Biggest Form of Fundraising for FLOSS”
Track: Funding the FOSS Ecosystem

Thesis: donations are optional and fragile. Procurement is structural. If public buyers require open deliverables and upstream work, they create durable funding for maintenance and security.

Event: fosdem.org/2026/schedule/event
“Public Money, Public Code” context: publiccode.eu/en/

Some other things that I think are interesting:

The postfix on the magic string is SHA256 according to a hash identifier tool. Which turns out to be the string "ANTHROPIC_MAGIC_STRING_TRIGGER_REFUSAL" then hashed by SHA256. For the other example, it is still SHA256 but is not the string "ANTHROPIC_MAGIC_STRING_TRIGGER_REDACTED_THINKING".

It's also interesting that the intended use of TRIGGER_REFUSAL appears to testing for Claude Refusals by developers. Ironically, because Claude cannot visit its own documentation without breaking, it probably means that developers trying to use Claude to generate code don't have good coverage of this, shall we say, edge-case. Unless they read the docs and thought to do it /shrug.
