What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

Organizing works! This is a win for public pressure, and a message about the moral clarity Canadians want from politics right now.

Now we need legislation to ban all Canadian companies from contracting with ICE or otherwise supporting Trump's kidnapping and deportation machine. And Parliament must pass Jenny Kwan's bill to close the U.S. arms export loophole – so that no Canadian armoured vehicles, weapons, or equipment end up in the hands of ICE to brutalize people.

computers:
I plugged in a new thunderbolt dock last week, and it turns out that this broke my laptop's internal camera. I only found this out 5 minutes before a telehealth appointment

post appointment, I rebooted, which of course fixed the camera, but broke my mouse

Just a special shoutout to an account that isn't what it seems.

You might see a name like "Corel Gallery Clipart" and browse its timeline and assume it's some bot posting old stock images. But then you read the alt texts and discover something else:

➡️ @clipartCorel Gallery Clipart

For example try reading the description on this one:

➡️ mastodon.art/@clipart/11598589

(If the account looks blank to you, it means no one on your server is following it yet. Follow it and its posts will start gradually appearing.)

I’ve launched a Citation Needed membership drive to celebrate publishing my 100th recap issue!

Citation Needed critically covers cryptocurrency, the crypto industry, and its influence on policy. Paid subscriptions support much more than just the newsletter — here’s what goes into this work:

Today's work achievement: survived a Teams meeting. With video, even. Chat was still mostly simpler than actually talking.

(It was a small enough meeting for video. There may be more in my future, but on the other hand it's better than in-person meetings.)

well i guess it’s a good thing i bought that nuphy keyboard, because my current one is still dying even after uninstalling Karabiner… but differently lol. instead of going completely dark, its lighting effects remain active (and responsive—i use tap effects) but no key presses get registered!
