And also you can optimize for as little technology as possible, or for as "optimal" technology as possible.

Currently, I am not so much concerned about future of ActivityPub, which is currently adequate, as it seems.

Running my own small instance is challenging, because resources are limited and I immediately see, that focusing on fundraising and controlling more resources is not the way.

I run state-of-the art Mastodon, maintained and updated by someone who is better admin, but I rather focus on tuning it. I play with tootctl statuses, found some undocumented features (this is not very human focused, to not document useful features).

Currently I would like to fine-tune lifetime of statuses in federated cache, which are without any interactions. Algorithm may be needed, because some accounts are automated and hyper active and flood the cache with tons of content (and someone on your instance is always going to follow them).

Domain-wide bans may or may not be the solution. What I am thinking about is domain-specific or even-account specific lifetime of statuses without interaction. This would save resources. Saving resources is in the end eco-centric.

Is my approach technology-centric or human-centric? Well, I want to compete for attention of humans with machines, designed to entertain them....

Now that the beta is out, I can start showing some of the changes I'm making! Let's start with the redesigned posting form, where I finally got to implement a design that I had first drafted back in Firefish (or was it Calckey?). At the top is the current Sharkey posting form, at the bottom the redesigned, more minimalistic Catodon posting form. This will also give you a general idea of my approach to UX design, and the direction of the new platform.

1. The "Post" button (with a larger font, and without the icon) is at the bottom right corner, closer to where your post would usually end.

2. The posting form expands as you write, a feature I ported from Firefish - which makes moving the Post button more useful, since it was in a kinda awkward position when writing longer posts.

3. The "X" closing button is at the top right corner, where most people would expect it to be.

4. Only the most frequently used icons are visible by default, decluttering the posting form for a cleaner look. The lower "..." menu opens on hover, meaning no extra click from desktops and laptops.

5. When you click "Show preview", the bottom row buttons stay between the typing area and the preview, instead of going all the way to the bottom. This makes it easier to access the buttons while having the preview open, and also keeps the "Show preview" button at the same point, so that you can expand/collapse the preview without having the button jump lower, as in Firefish and Sharkey.

오늘 동료랑 모노레포 설계에 대해 이야기하다가, 아래의 내용을 근거로 모노레포 설계에 너무 많은 시간을 쓰지말고 그냥 죄다 몰빵하자고 설득했다. 내가 생각하는 올바른 워크플로우를 어차피 도입하지 못할 거고, 그 상황에서 차선책들을 늘어놓고 고민을 하느니 시간이라도 아끼자는 입장이다.

내가 가진 개발에서의 지식/경험/의견은 negative한 형태가 많은것 같다. 어떤 문제에 대한 명쾌한 해결책(positive)보다는, 어떤 문제가 어렵거나 별로 중요하지 않으니 그쪽으로 시간을 쏟지 말아야한다는 사실을 활용하게 되는 경우가 더 잦다.

おもにClaude Codeに書いてもらってるiPad用PDFリーダー、概ね機能するようになったがまだアプリアイコンがない。アプリアイコンどうやって作るんだ。半年前だとChatGPTに丸投げできたんだけど今のチャッピーは素直にやってくれない。Appleが推奨してるツールもあるみたいだから自分で作ろうかなー。

全体のコード品質に不安があるので、AIたち(claude codeと、claude codeから呼び出すcodex）にレビューしてもらって修正中。レビュー計画と修正計画はclaude desktopにやってもらった。その前段階でコードのワーニング全部潰したはずなのにまた出てきてるな。

まだ先は長い。ほんとにリリースするならリリース前に屋号のApple Developerアカウントにしたいが個人事業主が屋号でやるの結構めんどくさいぽいんだよなあ

しかし機能リストだけ書けばずっと高機能なPDFアプリはいっぱいあるんだけど、わたしが欲しいのは「読書用」で、読書用ってそんなに多くないんよね。いやあることはあるんだけど、みんな少しずつ物足りない。
