on today's installment of parts that terrify me:

I don't actually know much about this LED, but it's certainly a very strong, possibly ultra low wavelength UV led. The incredibly clear cover-glass and the fact that the dies are water-cooled give off an eerie vibe.

I’m actually scared of figuring out the output power and wavelength by hooking it up to a lab supply. Anyone who knows what specs this could have? What part no it could be?

it is astonishing to me that this (i.e. security under an untrusted server) is novel research to these systems. ever since I started developing vault (2012) my model has been: I want to sync my secrets with dropbox, and I do not trust dropbox either not to look at my data or to preserve its integrity. these are ideas you would get from any basic introduction to cryptography

Der Einstieg in die Game Studies ist für viele Studierende von mangelndem Angebot einschlägiger Studiengänge, Orientierungslosigkeit im interdisziplinären Forschungsfeld und gefühlter oder tatsächlicher sozialer und kultureller Ausgrenzung gekennzeichnet. Bei über 500 Hochschulen im DACH-Raum finden sich nur bei 8 Studiengänge und Promotionsmöglichkeiten in den Game Studies, und in der fachfremden und interdisziplinären Auseinandersetzung mit Games fehlt oft der Bezug zum Feld. Durch soziale und kulturelle Vorurteile und Erwartungshaltungen gegenüber ‚dem Gamer’ entstehen Dynamiken der Stigmatisierung rund um digitale Spiele, die eine Abwehrhaltung produzieren, die vor allem im Zusammenspiel mit sexistischen Strukturen nicht-männliche Personen in der Games-Kultur im Allgemeinen und den Game Studies im Besonderen doppelt trifft. Wir schlagen daher vor, pro-aktiv studentische Initiative und Interesse zu unterstützen, das eigene Interesse an Game Studies explizit nach außen zu tragen, standardisierte Fachdatenbanken und Lexika zu etablieren, und Angebote für Nachwuchswissenschaftler*innen zu setzen, die ihnen einen gleichberechtigten Zugang zur Scientific Community ermöglichen.

그러고보니 RF 85mm F2가 내가 소유했던 렌즈 중에서는 가장 무겁군. ㅎㅎㅎ 무거운 렌즈는 질색이라 사질 않았었으니. 친구는 케틀벨 쇳덩어리 좋다고 휘두르는 놈이 웃긴다고 했지만. ㅋㅋ;

잠깐 테스트해 본 경험으로는 준망원 단렌즈로 사길 잘 했다 싶다. 줌렌즈였으면 피사체에 휘둘렸을 것 같다. 망원 단렌즈는 피사체를 고르고 거리 맟추질 못했을 거 같고. 만족함.

포커싱은 확실히 느린데, 내 용도로는 문제 없는 수준. 동체 추적은 기대하기 어렵지만 85mm의 역할은 아니고, 간이 매크로 렌즈라는 점을 고려하면 더욱더 그렇다. 정확도는 문제 없다.

렌즈 동작 방식은 후드가 필수. 포커싱 중에 속 경통이 나왔다 들어갔다 하는데 이걸 후드로 가려야 손가락이나 이물질이 끼는 일이 없다.

염가형 캐논이 다 그렇듯, 뭔가 하나 빼먹었지만 그 반대 급부는 확실히 채워놓는, 비틀린 밸런스가 절묘한 렌즈인 듯. L렌즈의 고른 열화판이 아니라 장점을 남기되 확실히 결여된, 코스트 컷한 부분들이 있는 구성이다. 쌀수록 경험과 주관이 확실한 유저들을 요구하는 정책. 고집이 있는 메이커다.

Just this morning I've seen two examples of accusations of stolen language and visuals - everyone feels helpless to create accountability. How did an ecosystem built on licensing and attribution slide so far, so fast.

I’ve been using Emacs for over 20 years and I still keep discovering (and rediscovering) comment-related commands and variables. You’d think that after two decades I’d have comments figured out, but it turns out there’s a surprising amount of depth hiding behind a few keybindings. What prompted this article was my recent work on neocaml, a tree-sitter based major mode for OCaml. OCaml uses (* ... *) block comments – no line comments at all – and that unusual syntax forced me to dig deeper into how Emacs handles comments internally. I learned more about comment variables in the past few months than in the previous 20 years combined.
