I find it mildly silly that some people in tech are still talking about whether "artificial intelligence" tools work or not. For their cost it would be irrelevant even if they worked. Did you actually look at the numbers of the companies involved? Oracle has now a >4 debt/equity ratio, CoreWeave has almost 9. Values above 2 are considered abnormal and dangerous. This is the financial equivalent of smoking in a factory that produces explosives.

CoreWeave financial data showing an 894.21% debt/equity ratio. Source is Yahoo! FinanceOracle financial data showing a 432.51% debt/equity ratio. Source is Yahoo! Finance

Glimmers of hope in dark times, !

Look at the responses to this asking how people experience our emerging fedi..

social.coop/@smallcircles/1161

A landscape of small villages, scattered with occasional larger cities, is the general perception thus far and that is a wonderful difference when contrasting to corporate ad-driven influencer-dominated platforms we have today.

It would be nice if some of the people who voted Ghost Town gave their impression and needs they have wrt the fediverse.. cc @mikeymikeytoo many names

Also ghost-towners, check out @FediThingFediThing 🏳️‍🌈 reply to the poll's thread:

And @nicolNicol Wistreich reply at:

If you didn't vote yet, do so now. And consider adding your boost. It is literally about uplifting our online social universe. 🌻

@smallcircles🫧 socialcoding.. everything you said can still be achieved with a customisable algo or litterally two tabs in the app : one with the chronological algorithm (still an algo btw) and one with the customized feed with your interests.

Without the second one the app is dead unless you build your feed yourself, that's really bad and explains why people got into bluesky instead of mastodon.
Also if you want to have mass appeal you don't expect people to have a boring app and understand the "new paradigm"

@fwtlDawa @smallcircles🫧 socialcoding.. there’s a third path to avoid empty timelines vs ‘build your own’ and ‘algorithm’ - packs, which is what the Mastodon team are focussing on .. blog.joinmastodon.org/2025/10/.

Because I saw your post and thought ‘oh but my timeline isn’t quiet’.. but rather than you having to find those 100s of accounts to follow to make it interesting, a pack supports different lists of accounts based on different interests. If they get it right (as they’ve got quotes right imho) then it could be really nice, and still no algo.

@pattykimuraSave Elderly Housing! Patty 👀

This is not far from my own experience but I would just add the Fediverse is obviously supposed to generate other places of interest with new unknown forces and expressions.

So, to my previous description with an analogy to the harbour, https://gotosocial.social/@nelfan/statuses/01KJN0JGW7EES2ANFKWBB0ZRJF, I would add this is obviously a starting point for those who have good ideas to go further and find other convenient places to build new harbours.

bgl gwyng @bgl@hackers.pub

💡 CSS Tip!

For years, we've had the "z-index, stacking context" nightmare, but we will soon have a worse nightmare related to Anchor Positioning 😱

When it doesn't work, it's frustrating, so it's time to learn how it really works.

It's not as simple as you might think!

as for why this alternate ending has apparently never been performed again, it's not really a mystery. The scene has is not based on anything from the play and it has the Count behaving out of character for immediate gags, when in the rest of the show he's serious and intimidating; the entire thing is tonally inconsistent with the rest of the show. The real mystery is why it was created in the first place

if I had to hazard a guess, it's either some parody of some scandal that had actually recently happened or some sort of pop culture reference related to a famous role of one of the members of the principal cast

usually when some old work of fiction has something that seems completely random it's actually a reference to something well-known to the audience at the time it was made

usually
