@reiver@reiver ⊼ (Charles) :batman: Hey, I just found this:

https://github.com/reiver/vibefed/blob/master/skills/kb-fediverse-portable-objects/SKILL.md

In general, I am not opposed to such project. If these "skills" could improve LLM output, that's great.

However, the input document itself appears to be generated, and contains numerous inaccuracies. To name a few:

- It mentions did:ap, which was replaced with 'ap' URis long time ago .
- It says that FEP-c390 is required to bridge regular AP and portable AP. But FEP-ef61 supports compatible identifiers, and is entirely independent of FEP-c390.

I don't know if this is a serious project. If you're interested in improving it, we can talk about that, but in its current state it is completely useless.

Okey, so, and knowers: is there an established procedure for changing your server's domain?

I understand this case is (unfortunately) not covered by the protocol, and thus is not doable optimally. I don't care about that, I just want to know the closest to optimal method.

Is there some way to set up another instance on the new domain and migrate all the data over? Make some kinda redirect before ultimately abandoning the old domain some years down the road?

CanPol, ABpol: about the Alberta Provincial Police, a (personal, informed opinion) warning to/about Canada in general

  • Danielle Smith and the UCP are creating a provincial police force, separate from the RCMP, including an Alberta Sheriffs Police Service:

cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/al

  • Danielle Smith and the UCP are going to require citizenship indicators be printed on IDs and drivers licenses, come late 2026:

cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/alb

  • Danielle Smith and the UCP are pursuing "Quebec-style" control over provincial immigration (using the results of that same government's austerity measures as a justification):

calgaryherald.com/news/smith-r

  • Possibly-related: a proposal for an AI data centre - the largest in Canada - was just delayed in the town of Olds, but there is no guarantee the proposal will stay dead.

thenarwhal.ca/olds-data-centre

  • Likely-related: The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), already broken, has been absorbed into the Alberta Police Review Commission.

theprogressreport.ca/_asirt_s_

globalnews.ca/news/11554395/al

  • Possibly-related: (Article is from 2005 and Ontario, but an Edmonton Police Service chief was just recently caught doing the same thing) Police chiefs taking trips to Israel for "educational" purposes.

(Article from 2005) israelnationalnews.com/news/77

(Article from 2026) cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/ed

To look at the rest of Canada:

  • Immigrants already get detained in Canada, despite the legality or type of their immigration status, and held in dismal conditions with no clear release date.

hrw.org/report/2021/06/17/i-di

  • Immigration has been, and is a major talking point for Conservatives, and has been a major factor in the current political climate getting to this point.

cbc.ca/news/politics/conservat

preventviolence.ca/publication

  • People are holding anti-immigrant hate rallies, in the open.

cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ant

  • As mentioned before, Quebec is just as extreme:

immigration.ca/quebec-cuts-imm

If you're familiar with how American police and border patrol operates, and you're familiar with the current, manufactured Albertan separatist push (as well as Washington meetings and the 51st state bullshit), then you might understand what I mean when I say the following thing:

Even with Canada having all of this going on: Danielle Smith and the UCP don't think that's extreme enough.

It's not unreasonable to say that they're trying to build their own version of ICE, here in the province of Alberta. Other provinces may want to follow, and that can't be allowed to happen.

My concern is, what if somebody asks one of these vibe coding developers a question about their app wrt federation (e.g. bug, how it works, etc.)

They would not have any deep knowledge about how any of it works! At best, they would turn around and feed it to their AI agent.

It means I would be debugging with an AI, while playing a game of telephone with the human in between. Neither sounds fun.

Like @mapache@hachyderm.io said, bad vibes.

That is exactly what vibefed is intended address. It tries create a Fediverse development "specialist".

It is meant to help vibecoding non-programmers get better results.

There's such a deep misunderstanding out there about tmux and zellij and I get so many absurd issue reports demonstrating that. So many don't realize that using them is like running a Windows VM on your Mac device, and complaining to Apple that iCloud sync isn't working from the VM.

They are super powerful and have their use and I am happy to support them in any way I can. I'm not anti-multiplexer, but I wish more people understood the architecture a bit more.

Like I mentioned in my poll...

mastodon.social/@reiver/115945

... people are already vibe-coding Fediverse software. (And likely, more people will do it as time goes on.)

It doesn't matter whether you, or I, or anyone else dislike vibe-coding or not — it is happening.

I think it is better to try to help them. Most of the people to who responded to my poll agreed.

I know some disagree. But, I chose to help them.

I'd rather welcome them to the Fediverse, too.

One thing I found interesting in this discussion was how people mixed the idea of software built with AI assistance and AI software itself.

It feels like a real fluid boundary; a lot of people talked about AI being "in" the software when someone's used AI to help build the software.

Other words used included "tainted" and "infected".
