I wanted to share some feedback on the documentation provided in the Highlighting Journalism on Mastodon blog post.

Specifically, in The technical section, the example code for the fediverse:creator meta tag is given as:

Based on my testing (and that of others), Mastodon doesn't seem to recognize the creator link correctly when the leading @ is present in the content attribute. It only works when the @ is removed, like this:

Following the blog's example directly led to some wasted time figuring out why it wasn't working. It would be great if either the example in the blog post could be corrected to reflect the current requirement, or if Mastodon's parser could be made more flexible to accept the handle with or without the leading @.

At the tail end of our 4th monthly Python Glasgow event yesterday, I entered a conversation circle and was asked a question by the only woman that attended the event.

"Do other women attend this event?

It was her first time attending, and I had honestly no idea how to respond; I also have no idea how to fix it. -- It shined a light on the fact that not much women attend. We are still in the early days of setting up, but If anyone could provide guidance on this I would be extremely grateful.

이 기사를 보면서 고민해봤다. 소설도, 장르소설도, 내가 좋아하는 SF와 판타지도 많은 사람이 읽을 수 있도록 더 쉬운 언어로 쓸 수 있지는 않을까? 같은 말과 표현이 반복되더라도 누군가 어려움 없이 읽을 수 있다면, 좋지 않을까? 분량 또한 너무 길지 않게, 짧게 만든다면 어쩌면 더 많은 사람들이 즐길 수 있지 않을까? 어쩌면 초단편소설의 미래는 그곳에 있지 않을까? 모두가 읽을 수 있는 이야기?

Multi-Token Attention

Soft attention is a critical mechanism powering LLMs to locate relevant parts within a given context. However, individual attention weights are determined by the similarity of only a single query and key token vector. This "single token attention" bottlenecks the amount of information used in distinguishing a relevant part from the rest of the context. To address this issue, we propose a new attention method, Multi-Token Attention (MTA), which allows LLMs to condition their attention weights on multiple query and key vectors simultaneously. This is achieved by applying convolution operations over queries, keys and heads, allowing nearby queries and keys to affect each other's attention weights for more precise attention. As a result, our method can locate relevant context using richer, more nuanced information that can exceed a single vector's capacity. Through extensive evaluations, we demonstrate that MTA achieves enhanced performance on a range of popular benchmarks. Notably, it outperforms Transformer baseline models on standard language modeling tasks, and on tasks that require searching for information within long contexts, where our method's ability to leverage richer information proves particularly beneficial.
