http+mail:// protocol idea:

HTTP requests are sent over emails to a person, e.g.

kira@example.com/index.html

Pages are sent back using your email service's auto-responder settings to automatically serve up pages.

Would be slow as heck, but decentralized and not require technical knowledge to host your own website!

What if we all woke up with Job Title amnesia and couldn't remember any existing job titles but still did the same general work.

What would you call yourself and what you do?

Would you group yourself with a different group of people doing a different kind of work than how you're currently grouped?

after watching my Dell XPS 13 laptop suffer from swollen battery, then dying completely within a few weeks of putting in a new battery (which I theorize may be due to internal component damage from the first swelling), same thing has been happening with my Framework 13. New battery is on the way, however, my immensely slow idiot brain has finally figured out to install additional kernel mods + battery health charging gnome addons to *limit the battery charge* to only 60%, since I'm plugged in all day. Hopefully Framework internals aren't also toasted by the swelling. This kind of thing should be a lot more built-in / by default for modern OSes.

okay, yes, this entire approach to “ai” in the workforce is yet another instance of a tech CEO beclowning himself

at the same time: when a leader says human workers are a source of “bottlenecks”, and that automation is the source of “solutions”, pay very, very, very close attention

(and if you haven’t already, start getting organized with your coworkers)

theverge.com/news/657594/duoli

As usual, @anildash has it right: much like the “return to office” push that preceded them, these “AI-first” corporate policies are performances for investors, and for other tech CEOs. A more sensible policy would empower workers to explore a technology’s benefits, not simply mandate usage. anildash.com//2025/04/19/ai-fi

https://murrari.hatenablog.com/entry/20140622/1403423969

Question of the day, I have hosted on my halis.io domain, same for my instance, and it works without issues because one uses and the other

But, if I setup a instance on the same domain, as in without subdomain, it shouldn’t work, right ?

Would there be a way to converge both manyfold and mastodon under the same base domain ? Or do I have to use a subdomain for one ?

completely disgusted with Barclays UK being in a speed rush to be amongst the first to announce they're implementing transphobic toilet policing, as soon as possible.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/barclays-trans-women-ladies-toilets-b2742223.html

one small consequence of this, I just closed my existing Barclays/Barclaycard accounts.

I've been meaning to do it for a while, this one just finally tipped me over. Maybe you're in a position to do the same? Don't forget to let them know why you're bouncing.

my colleague @DarkaMauldm has put out a new post on the @trailofbits blog on how we worked with @pypiPython Package Index's maintainers to slash PyPI test run times from ~160s to ~30s despite overall test counts growing by 17% (3900 to 4700+):

blog.trailofbits.com/2025/05/0

this is some of my favorite kind of work: faster test suites means that developers run tests locally more often, and are less hesitant to add new tests (especially parametric ones). another great example of security and performance/reliability engineering dovetailing.

I’m proud to be joining @Mastodon.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy’s Board of Directors to guide such an important platform. Mastodon and the Fediverse, along with Bluesky and the ATmosphere, have so much potential to build the world a little better. blog.joinmastodon.org/2025/05/evol...

Quokka

Rottnest
