Fantastic post by @fimionAlex Riviere.

At first I was like: Oh no, I guess I have to clean up my RSS reader because I certainly never subscribed to AI shilling blogs. Then I opened the post and had to laugh out loud.

I just bought this book for my friend’s little boy, who has just become a big brother to his new baby sibling.
I wonder how many grown-ups can answer these questions without peeking under the flaps?

(English) Book cover of Usborne Lift-the-Flap First Questions and Answers: Why Should I Share? by Katie Daynes, illustrated by Christine Pym, with expert advice from child psychologist Dr Lillie Lyons.
Illustration shows a cheerful blue bug swinging on a bellflower, seemingly unwilling to share the fun with a group of other bugs patiently waiting in line.
(English)
The opening pages of the book:
“Why should I share?
Because sharing makes life more fair for everyone. It’s kind to others, and you get something out of it too.”
Illustrated with adorable bugs sharing - and sometimes not sharing - berries and toys with their friends.
Questions include:
	•	How can I be fair?
	•	But won’t I get less if I share?
	•	Can we share this cake fairly?
	•	Is it more fun to share?
	•	What will happen if I don’t share?
	•	Do I have to share my best toy?
	•	How can we share a swing?「
(English) Inside flap for “How can I be fair?”:
A green bug offers one of its two large strawberries to a purple bug, who only has a tiny berry.
The answer reads:
“By thinking of others and trying to give everyone the same chances. Life isn’t always fair, but we can do our best to make things better for each other.”

After reviewing FEP-5624: Per-object reply control policies and GoToSocial's interaction policy spec, I find myself leaning toward the latter for long-term considerations, though both have merit.

FEP-5624 is admirably focused and simpler to implement, which I appreciate. However, 's approach seems to offer some architectural advantages:

  1. The three-tier permission model (allow/require approval/deny) feels more flexible than binary allow/deny
  2. Separating approval objects from interactions appears more secure against forgery
  3. The explicit handling of edge cases (mentioned users, post authors) provides clearer semantics
  4. The extensible framework allows for handling diverse interaction types, not just replies

I wonder if creating an that extracts GoToSocial's interaction policy design into a standalone standard might be worthwhile. It could potentially serve as a more comprehensive foundation for access control in .

This is merely my initial impression though. I'd be curious to hear other developers' perspectives on these approaches.

In a group of 39 organisations and 43 experts we call on Commissioner Virkkunen for a scientific evidence-based approach to 💪🏽

The announcement from the European Commission about a “Technology Roadmap on encryption” has raised several questions because of plans to enable law enforcement authorities access to encrypted data 🙅🏽‍♀️

We ask for meaningful participation of experts to safeguard and Rights.

Thank you. I always kind of feel stupid because cjdns and PKT didn't become more.

You've been really good at staying focused on immediate/obvious utility, that's probably why Pixelfed has done so well.

In other news, I have started working on getting code into Linux kernel to support EcoNet devices (20$ fiber/dsl modems): https://econet-linux.pkt.wiki/
I even applied to NLnet to see if they want to support it, would be fun to do this full time for a year ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What’s the Difference Between WCAG, the EAA, and EN 301 549? Complex topic indeed.
I love a good food metaphor, so here we go:
- WCAG is the cookbook that tells you how to prepare accessible digital content.
- The EAA is the food safety law: it makes serving accessible content mandatory in the EU.
- EN 301 549 is the detailed inspection checklist: not mandatory on its own, but, used to prove you’re following the rules.

3 illustrations showing the difference between WCAG, European Accessibility Act and EN 301 549 with the following text.
WCAG: a cookbook: with recipes (guidelines) for preparing accessible digital content. It’s a global reference, but following it is voluntary. Illustration of a cook holding a WCAG cookbook
European Accessibility Act. The food safety law: it makes serving accessible content mandatory in the EU. Enforced by EU member states, with penalties for non-compliance. Illustration of the scale of justice, with a contract named EAA
EN 301 549: A detailed inspection checklist: not mandatory on its own, but, used to show the “recipes” were followed correctly. It’s based on WCAG. Illustration of a checklist, being checked by a pen, titled EN 301 549.
