I remember getting excited hearing people mentioning "slack" a few years ago, only to realize with thundering disappointment later that they were talking about a new-to-me crappy corporate chat app, not the senior Linux distro.

Never tried Slackware myself, but props to the distinguished gentleman in a room full of "arch with a custom theme" also-rans. 😅

As part of my job, I have to evaluate AI tools. Part of that evaluation is pushing them to their limit. Today, I realised Cursor has a setting where if you critique its work enough, it goes silent and refuses to apply changes.

It's a moody junior dev whose overconfidence and bravado quickly turn to surly silence when their work is questioned. The happy, helpful (and frequently wrong) AI is gone, replaced by a useless one with a bad attitude that won't make it past the next performance review.

Christ. I'm used to managing engineers, but I draw the line at managing AIs.

I wonder if anyone has designed a "systems" programming language that doesn't have destructors, but makes it a compile error for a variable to fall out of scope without being stored or explicitly destroyed. When people like Linux kernel maintainers complain about the "implicit control flow" of destructors, that could be a perfect alternative.

I need to try the experimental `LinearTypes` feature of Haskell. It would be nice to see Rust offer a feature like that. (Rust has "affine" rather than "linear" types.)
