LogTape 0.12.0 Release Notes

洪 民憙 (Hong Minhee) @hongminhee@hackers.pub

LogTape, a zero-dependency logging library for JavaScript and TypeScript, has released version 0.12.0 with several enhancements. The update introduces a new `trace` log level for more granular debugging and improves file sink performance through configurable buffering. A significant addition is the `@logtape/syslog` package, enabling log message transmission to syslog servers using RFC 5424. The update also includes `Logger.warning()` as an alias for `Logger.warn()` for consistency. Furthermore, all LogTape packages now share unified versioning for better compatibility. The build infrastructure has been migrated from `dnt` to `tsdown`, enhancing compatibility with modern JavaScript toolchains and improving build times. This release optimizes logging capabilities and ensures smoother integration with various JavaScript runtimes.

AI computer-programming tools

I suspect that we wouldn't have AI computer-programming tools right now if it weren't for there being so much open-source software in existence.

...

This isn't meant to be a negative or positive statement towards either. Just that if a history of AI computer-programming tools is ever written, it should talk about open-source software and its associated social-movement.

In Big Sur, one thing that bugged me about the new full-height sidebars & inspector sidebars is that they took so much real-estate from toolbars.

Now with chonkier controls everywhere and in toolbars with , everything just feels more cluttered on my 14" MacBook Pro.

As you make windows smaller, toolbar controls prematurely get thrown into an overflow menu. I have to remove buttons just to make it more usable these days.

Very dense UI on the Desktop is not a bad thing.

I am feeling physically bad and the game jam sold out so I'm listening to techno and turning my experimental LISP ( mastodon.social/@mcc/114308850 ) into an assembly language

I had this thought. Imagine you have three steps in your LISP

- Reader
- Macro expansion
- Evaluator

The output of the reader and macro expansion steps are data structures. In a previous language, I swapped out the evaluator for a compiler, operating on that data structure.

What if you could swap the evaluator for "anything"?

Iran & Israel, current events

If you're keeping up with what's happening I can only recommend you find yourself a non-western source of events. Or more than one.

I've been reading both the CNN and Aljazeera live timelines and the difference in coverage is very apparent.

Generally Aljazeera seems less prone to publishing claims or comments from either country without some basic-ass verification of reality, or by giving more context.

CNN is somewhat critical of some things Israel does, but largely replicates their narrative

(the guardian felt like straight up Netanjahu propaganda...)

Anyway, if your take away from all this is to not keep up with events, that's also fair

With 2 days left to go, PeerTube is less than $6k from reaching the next funding milestone - and only 2 days ago it was $10k.

Reaching it will add live streaming directly from your phone via the app. Think how important live streaming is, especially on days like No Kings Day to provide censorship free documentation of protests.

If you can manage a contribution, please consider it!

Boston PrideNoKings is like… delightfully confused? There are very clearly two different events happening and the result feels… adorable? Both less and more than the sum of its parts.
