This is a nearly perfect example demonstrating how putting "a human in the loop" is in no way a solution to the problem that all LLMs produce incorrect outputs and cannot be prevented from doing so. Their objective is to produce "plausible text" and therefore preventing the user from noticing the false parts is the success condition.

In this case, the users were the many authors of a paper and included the developers of such a model -- the people who should be most able to catch such a thing. In my experience, one ends up reading and re-reading a paper that is being submitted for review such that that it is practically the best case for the "human in the loop" to catch the nonsense. Even in that situation, though, the autocomplete was sparkling enough to avoid detection.

"Plumber Kart 8 Demake" (2025)

A pixel art demake of a popular video game. We see a plumber with a red hat and blue overalls on a small metal kart, driving on a dirt road through rolling green hills with some trees on them.

There is pixel art UI, like a yellow star in the top left, and a position indicator in the bottom right. The colours are bright and warm.

As with the demise of windows10, various meta happenings around Whatsapp open possibilities to welcome refugees. Instead of blaming them for not having had whatever insights earlier, there are often just very practical questions where a helping hand does wonders. Offering help instead of trying to convince.

Currently many companies are giving win11-incompatible laptops away, often powerful systems that deserve upgrading to Linux, and then donating then. It also helps to counter hardware waste.

What I'm listening to today: "Cwejman/Verbos Dub", Lucas Marchal

Last week I linked this guy doing synth unboxing experiments, here's what he sounds like doing a completed track. Dark, intent dub using the full spectrum of electronic production. Slipping silently under abandoned awnings and cloudy skies as your robotic pursuers nip constantly at your heels. Glance up and your gaze is met by the first touches of rain, and a dual-rotor helicopter blotting out the sun

Hey, Linux people: a LOT of folks are screaming off Windows right now.

Be. Kind. To. Them.

They don't know much yet, so they are going to ask really basic questions. If you're KIND, you might get some to give it a try and stick to it bc they know they can ask for help. If you're unkind, you're showing them using Linux will be *worse* than Windows. If you can't bring yourself to be kind, then SAY NOTHING. Let others pick up that slack.
