In the Wildlife Sanctuary of Rema-Kalenga, Tripura men prepare bamboo harvested from the surrounding forests. Often called “the poor man's timber”, bamboo plays a major role in regional markets. Thirty-three species have been recorded and are a main source of income. It is men who collect and prepare the bamboo. From this raw material, women fashion mats and other various objects.

If you still have an account on academia.edu, you should probably delete it.

I'm not sure how their new terms are legal: they give the site the right to use your data *in any manner*. This is mainly to help them scrape academic work and republish/mangle parts of it through AI without credit: but these terms go way beyond that into your likeness, your voice, even your signature.

Please boost this to academics you know. Further PSA elements in thread:

Text "By creating an Account with Academia.edu, you grant us a worldwide, irrevocable, non-exclusive, transferable license, permission, and consent for Academia.edu to use your Member Content and your personal information (including, but not limited to, your name, voice, signature, photograph, likeness, city, institutional affiliations, citations, mentions, publications, and areas of interest) in any manner, including for the purpose of advertising, selling, or soliciting the use or purchase of Academia.edu's Services." Middle portion is highlighted.

this includes if you describe your organization/laws/medical system as trans-affirming but they have no recognition of non-binary people

stop pretending like cis-normative (and hetero-normative) trans rights are rights for all trans people and start fighting for the rights of
all people of all genders

true trans liberation comes when everyone - cis and trans and otherwise - can look how they want, act how they want, and achieve the care that they want, while being supported by the people and systems around them

this includes informed consent hormones for
anyone who wants them

using whatever name and pronouns and identity terms for
anyone who asks

informed consent surgeries of
all varieties

and none of this being restricted by gender identity, presentation, characteristics, or other gatekeeping bullshit

Artist Painting Funny Fake Shadows To Confuse People (20 Photos)

STREET ART UTOPIA @streetartutopia@streetartutopia.com

Damon Belanger, a graphic artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area, created a public art installation called "Fake Shadows" in Redwood City, California, USA. Funded by the Redwood City Public Art Program, this unique and playful street art project was realized in 2016. Belanger's "Fake Shadows" are a delightful interplay of reality and illusion. The artist added painted false shadows to common street objects, such as bike racks, benches, mailboxes, and even a manhole cover, turning them […]

The Purépecha use common tule, or hardstem bulrush, from Lake Pátzcuaro (Michoacán) to weave all sorts of traditional objects such as panniers, baskets, mats, and hats. These items, which serve the needs of daily life, are also some of the crafts sought after by tourists. They are sold at major festivals that bring together the wares from the entire region, as here in the zócalo (central square) of Uruapán.

The rainforest is a very special classroom for both and local people. Field studies involving researchers and villagers allow the comparison of local knowledge and scientific knowledge, as here in the measurement of DBH (diameter at breast height), a standard measure of tree trunks, carried out by a villager and a biologist from the University of Yaoundé.

Generic Greetings: An

The hard part of an introduction is talking about. Sometimes I'm pretty good at talking about myself, but when you have to do it somewhere new *The Voice* rears its ugly head and tries to tell me that no one cares.

The Voice may be right, but I will proceed in spite of it.

I am Zak, and I've recently accepted my latent queerness. Any pronoun but "it" is fine to use. When I explain my relationship to gender and pronoun use I tend to say "however you conceive of me in the moment," I'm not particularly arsed about them. I'm working on how I want to present myself in the physical world going from. Current project: painted nails. (Small steps are still steps). Within the confines of my home, I am playing with different sartorial choices (really enjoying skirts and heeled boots).

I am involved in a support group for trans youth and their families. I have recently volunteered to be a parent/caregiver facilitator for that group so that our local meetings can happen with more regularity. Which will be interesting as the transition only started recently for my family.

I play euphonium in a local community band. Locally I am involved in a non-profit that builds inclusive community through in person gaming ( and ).

I enjoy reading and .

My sense of humor tends to be wry and dry with deadpan delivery.

In the professional touch grass world, I am a pretty good, if fairly niche, final mile logistics specialist and a passable data wrangler.

I am predisposed to being friendly, and largely interested in what everyone has to share...as long as the basis of your beliefs is all humans have a right to exist. If that's not the fundamental basis of your approach to life, we probably won't have a lot to discuss.
