Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.
@cheeaunChee Aun 🤔 You know what would be cool? When I paste a link into a post, to find out whether it has a nice og: preview because, if not, I'll paste the headline in too. Just posted a link, included the headline, and now it appears twice in the post, looking kind of dumb.
Several of my friends here asked me if I’m in a safe place, but I struggle to explain the geography of Gaza and people from overseas struggle to understand it. So I’m writing a thread. 🧶⬇️⬇️⬇️
I'm not sure why, but my brain seems to work well with bending LLMs.
@wsvincentWill Vincent told me that he couldn't get the word "VOTE" to appear in an image, and it only took two suggestions to get it working. My other suggestion was to have it spell it out via "V" "O" "T" "E", which I have had to use before to get some signs printed for our office once, and it was confused by "revsys".
"You wouldn’t control a washing machine using the R programming language, or conversely do a statistical analysis on large datasets using C. But it is technically possible to do both. A human might tear their hair out doing it, but LLMs have about as much hair as they do sentience." #Tech#Programming#AI cc: @ieeespectrumhttps://spectrum.ieee.org/top-programming-languages-2025

Oh, how cool! "we introduce the Claims Network approach, which collects information about REIL [Research (R), Education (E), societal impact (I), and academic leadership (L) ] contributions by inviting researchers to post about them on the distributed Mastodon social media environment."
Are you going to IETF Montreal in November? Me too! Currently working out my flights and leaning towards the second half of the week through the weekend. Would love to get together with some other #ATProtocol developers to talk tech, network, and hang out. Message me!

In this week's issue of Cybercultural, my online magazine about internet history, I look at how Slashdot's "karma" system inspired the moderation efforts of BowieNet version 2.0 (launched in May 2000). I also check in with Google and Amazon in the year 2000: despite the dot-com downturn, their karma was just fine. (bonus: a pic of Google's founders wearing tin foil capes at that year's Webbys!). https://cybercultural.com/p/karma-2000-slashdot-bowienet-v2/
Hello everyone! I'm thrilled to announce the second release of the alpha Bevy CLI, a command-line tool hacked on by the Bevy CLI working group that streamlines work on projects using the Bevy game engine (https://bevy.org). This release includes key improvements such as:
- Automatically configuring the correct getrandom backend when building a project for the web - Easily listing and installing specific versions of the Bevy Linter - Unstable support for enabling web multi-threading, useful when depending on crates like bevy_seedling - Faster compile times and improved template support by relying on cargo-generate in its executable form, rather than bundling it as a library - Many bug fixes, small quality-of-life changes, and documentation improvements
There are times when I receive an unexpected OTP (one time password) on my phone —
I often wonder – is there some software-developer out there, that is working on some software, and just needed to enter a phone-number — any phone-number — and entered mine.
I was in the Mangas mountains and found a pottery midden. The fine shape of the pottery and the black on white and black on red glaze suggests later Puebloan, maybe produced at Antelope Mesa as some of the pieces seem to have been fired at high temperature. There was some pottery I didn't know. High fired black ware with a raw exterior and shiny, vitrified interior looking like hematite. They didn't photograph well but does anyone recognize them? #NewMexico#archeology#pottery
