李家超今日（12月2日）表示，大埔宏福苑發生奪命大火，奪走151條人命、79人受傷（其中40人仍留院），是香港深刻又沉痛的悲劇。他形容，大火焚毀的不止樓宇，更刺痛全港市民的心，亦奪去一名英勇消防員的生命。李家超向消防隊伍致以敬意，感謝他們在危險環境中成功救出不少居民；同時亦向醫護、警務人員、公務員及社會各界在事件中各司其職表達謝意。
他指，警方正跟進餘下30宗失聯個案，市民正以不同方式悼念，包括到場獻花、簽署悼念冊，全港政府建築物亦已下半旗誌哀。政府已啟動庇護中心，陸續安排約2,500名受影響居民入住過渡性房屋或酒店，現時仍約20人在庇護中心暫住。他表示，已為受災家庭安排「一戶一社工」，並有公務員團隊提供支援。他與多名司局長亦到訪過渡性房屋，災民普遍對現時安排表示滿意。他同時譴責有人向災民發出詐騙短訊，批評行為卑劣。
