Happy 17th birthday to the very best cat in the entire world! We adopted him a little over 10 years ago and he was my first cat. He was reported to be anxious with IBS but once in our house, he turned out to be the friendliest, most sociable cat ever. He’s also introduced so many people to the joys of and caused them to get cats of their own.

First photo of our cat Max in our house. He sits in a hallway looking at a brand new home just for him.

@ploum Hello, I recently came across this, it’s a year old so maybe you have written a follow-up, an apology or something ploum.net/2025-12-04-pixelfed-
You made it like Pixelfed is offending the protocol but Mastodon does many of the claims you make in your blogpost. The protocol supports many types but Mastodon supports note. The reason the issue isn’t as terrible is because everyone conformed to Mastodon

I'm gonna log off for a while and shoot psychic energy at Metroids or something because I'm exhausted beyond belief with *people* at this point.

My parting thought for now: I've said for a long time that AI in general and LLMs in particular erode trust. Enclosure of culture only works if you can break trust, and that's precisely what slopware vendors have very effectively done.

"The man who pulled the trigger had been provoked, they said. It was not the killer who was a terrorist. It was the mom who had just dropped off one of her six-year-old at school.

These individual lies are part of the logic of death squads. A murderer can go free because the government controls the story. And then the next murder is all the easier. And suddenly this is normal & people simply disappear."

I'm reading now the history of the rise of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela (as depicted in the book "Comandante") and I cannot shake the feeling that his rise (and rule) are not that different from what emerging autocrats in the western world are doing (or trying to do) these days.

The tale & fate of Venezuela should be a cautionary tale for all of us... Let's see if we can learn from the mistakes of others or we'll be doomed to repeat them ourselves...

A second thread today about the murder of Renee Good in Minneapolis, with Trump's ICE officer Jonathan Ross accused of the murder:

Both Ben Meiselas and Aaron Parnas have just reported that they have received from Alpha News footage from the cellphone camera of the ICE officer accused of killing Renee Good, Jonathan Ross.
