현재 성층권 10hPa 제트기류가 동풍으로 전환하는 구간이 발생하는 등 전형적인 겨울의 끝, Final Warming 현상이 관측되고 있는데요. NAM Index를 보면 성층권 상부의 강한 음의 지수가 대류권으로 하락하는 것이 보입니다. 이 때문에 아직까지 AO Index가 양전하지 못한 채 약한 음의 값을 보이고 있죠. 하지만 AO 지수의 양전과 함께 대류권의 제트기류가 북상, 3월 3주 정도부터는 기온이 매우 빠르게 상승할 것으로 예상됩니다. 어떤 만화 캐릭터의 말처럼 정말로 '눈이 녹으면 봄이 오는' 날씨가 되겠네요.
앙상블 모델 예보에 따르면 3월 14일 경부터 봄의 온기가 본격적으로 다가올 것으로 예상되는데요. 3월 18일 전후로는 평년 기온 수준의 평이한 봄 날씨가 될 것으로 보입니다. 하지만 각각 오늘과 3월 12일 ECMWF의 500hPa 지위고도 모델을 보면 분열된 북극 소용돌이가 아직 세력을 완전히 상실하진 않은 것이 보입니다. 여러 모델 상으로는 소용돌이가 파이널 워밍 단계에 도달하며 서서히 수렴, 사라져가는 과정으로 보이지만, 현재 우랄 인근에 머물러 있는 한랭핵 덩어리가 한두차례는 더 한반도에 내습할 가능성도 없진 않아요.
겉보기 날씨보다 더 추우니 출근길 보온에 큰 신경을 써 주셔야 할 것 같습니다. 오늘 오후까지는 전국이 흐리다가 저녁부터 수도권, 충청권, 전라권, 경상 서부가 맑아지겠습니다. 아침 최저기온은 -1~7℃, 낮 최고기온은 5~15℃입니다. 주요 도시별 기온은 서울 2~12℃, 대전 3~13℃, 대구 6~12℃, 광주 4~15℃, 부산 7~12℃, 제주 9~12℃입니다. 다시 말씀드리지만 수은주는 높아보이지만 체감기온은 달라요. 며칠 뒤 한 차례 더 찾아올 깜짝 꽃샘추위를 대비해서라도 3월 10일 정도까지 두꺼운 옷은 꺼내어둡시다.
하지만 이 동풍으로 인해 어제 내도록 내린 눈비와 겹쳐 서해안권역 아침나절 출근 기온은 꽤나 쌀쌀합니다. 어제는 습기를 머금은 동풍이 비를 뿌렸지만, 기압 중심이 이동하며 오늘은 더 차고 건조한 공기가 주도권을 잡고 있는데요. 어제 내렸던 비로 지면과 하층 대기는 습도가 높았지만 건조한 북동풍이 유입되며 지면의 수분을 증발시켜 증발냉각이 일어납니다. 통상적으로 푄 현상은 영서지방을 따뜻하게 만들지만 상층 한기로 인해 한랭건조한 바람이 오히려 있던 온기마저 홀라당 날려버리는 상황이 된거죠. 거기다 바람까지 매우 강해서 더 추워요.
현재까지 ECMWF, GFS 모두 강원 영동 일부 지역, 동해안에 면한 일부 경상권 지역을 제외하면 야간에는 구름이 갤 것으로 예상하고 있는데요. 현재 국지 일기도를 보면 함흥 일대에 국지성 고기압이 위치해서 동풍을 계속 불어오게 하고 있습니다. 그러면서 바람이 백두대간과 충돌, 영동 지역은 구름 많은 날씨를 보이겠지만 그 밖의 지역은 맑은 날씨가 예상됩니다. 여건이 허락한다면 2028년 12월 31일에나 다시 볼 수 있을 개기월식을 오늘 관측하시는건 어떨까 생각됩니다. 저도 아이들과 밤 시간을 달을 보며 보낼까 생각중이에요.
26/3/3 날씨 이것저것 오늘은 정월 대보름입니다. 하지만 어제부터 내린 눈비로 간밤의 달은 구름 속에 숨어 있었습니다. 오늘은 정말 특별한 보름이 될 것 같은데요. 36년만에 정월대보름과 개기월식이 겹쳐져서 핏빛 달이 뜰 예정이기 때문입니다. 오후 6시 49분 부터 달이 조금씩 가려지는 부분식이 시작되고, 오후 8시 4분에는 달이 지구 그림자에 완전히 숨는 개기식이 진행됩니다. 오후 8시 33분에 개기월식이 최대가 되며 붉게 빛나는 달이 되는데요. 서쪽은 하늘이 개어 달을 보겠지만, 동쪽은 구름이 변수가 되겠습니다.

I've been increasingly concerned about the corporate monopoly over frontier LLMs. While many ethically-minded people choose to boycott these models, I believe passive resistance alone cannot break the structural grip of big tech. To truly “liberate” these technologies and turn them into public goods, we need to look beyond moral high grounds and engage with the material basis of AI—specifically compute, data, and the relations of production.
I've written two posts exploring this through the lens of historical materialism. The first piece analyzes why current “open source” definitions struggle with LLMs, and the second discusses what it means to “act materialistically” in our imperfect world. My goal is to suggest a path forward that moves from mere boycotting to a more proactive, structural socialization of AI infrastructure.
