Yes, it is also my recollection I was one of the original adopters of "fediverse" as federated + universe (as in the federated universe, as used in the all-inclusive greeting "good morning Fediverse" before we coined !TZAG) .

What I don't understand, Evan, is why you want to redefine it,? It seems to me the word "universe" is by definition both ultimately diverse and absolutely inclusive.

PSA: Vim is one of the most stable software packages I've ever used, and if I pick an arbitrary version from the source code, I can "make install" it and it'll very likely Just Work. For the time being, I simply plan to not "git pull" and keep using the Vim version that I have.

The only problem I can think of is being unable to compile it with newer versions of external interpreters, I'd consider looking for pure vimscript alternatives to any python or ruby plugins you might be using.

@joeyhsee shy jo I'm glad to see that someone else has considered this angle. It's always bugged me a little when I see the "they aren't deterministic" argument, but I've kept it to myself because nobody likes a pedant and of course @cwebberChristine Lemmer-Webber already understands as much.

I just worry that if this critique were to become more popular then the LLM makers would just implement the ability to specify a seed, then sit back and play the game where they say

we heard your criticism and have addressed it

Most people have no reason to have developed an advanced reasoning capacity about randomness, and I dread having to explain to them how something can be both deterministic and stochastic in nature 😣​

Indeed, Blender's rendering system is in many ways a compiler for images.

But we don't use that way, because it's not helpful, even though Blender and ffmpeg are MORE of compilers than LLMs are. People are reaching for "LLMs might be compilers!" because of the thing they want it to *do* rather than how it *acts*, even though Blender and ffmpeg are by far, under those definitions, much more of compilers than LLMs are.

결국 아르바이트를 지속적으로 하려면 지속적으로 채집도구를 사야하고, 조금 더 일을 오래 하고 싶거든 상급의 채집도구를 사야한다. 그리고 이렇게 했을 때 소모비용은 아르바이트로 얻을 수 있는 재화가치를 떨어뜨린다. 하지만 플레이어는 아르바이트를 하기 위해서 더 많은 하급 도구를 사거나 비싼 상급 도구를 사야한다. 재화의 무한한 발행은 이러한 방식을 통해 억제되며, 플레이어는 그 억제로 인하여 한계성을 느낄 수 밖에 없다. 그리고 이러한 한계성의 경험은 소위 말하는 현질욕을 강하게 자극한다. 지금 내가 그렇다는 소리다.

마비노기 모바일은 모든 곳에서 자본주의의 악의가 느껴진다. 이를테면 무언가를 만드는 아르바이트를 하려면, 그에 대한 재료를 구해야 하는데, 이 재료는 채집을 하거나 상점에서 살 수 있다. 하지만 재화를 벌기 위한 아르바이트에 재화를 쓴다는 것은 그만큼의 기대 수익률을 낮추기 때문에, 가능하면 인력을 통해 직접 채집하는게 낫다. 어차피 은동전이랑 마족공물 떨어지면 남는건 시간이고 그 시간동안 할게 없으니 채집이나 하는게 좋다. 문제는 채집도구의 내구도다. 별거 아닌 채집을 위한 입문도구 내구도는 10. 아르바이트 한번 하면 박살난다.

Perhaps the most perverse consequence of age verification laws: many require advertising the age bracket of the user to the open web. Children will be known to be children even to those that would exploit that information without regard for any other "safety" law.

Man, I've been a solo entrepreneur since 2017, but this is the first time I've considered quitting. Got a big pile of extra tax-related work and stress thrown at me because… I haven't made enough money.

Not sure why I bother doing all this admin, dealing with all this stress, and paying other people money, just so I get to keep doing things I'd be doing anyway.

There’s one very simple thing I learned from Chomsky and that will change your worldview forever. It is really simple.

Each time you read something in a media, simply add the following sentence before everything: "Someone want me to believe that…"

It completely modified my perception. It calmed my anger against lies. It allowed me to read something with no judgement other than "Someone want me to believe that".

Next, you will start questioning who is that "someone". But one step at a time…

Every year, millions of students open a laptop and log into Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, surrendering their digital sovereignty to US Big Tech in the process. Teachers use cloud-based editors to assign homework. School administrators manage documents in proprietary formats. This ecosystem runs smoothly and seemingly without friction, but almost no one questions the cost of this normalisation. Unfortunately, the cost is quite high. An invisible resume Schools don’t just teach maths and history; they also teach mental processes, such as how to do research, think critically and interact with tools and institutions. Software is part of this invisible curriculum. A student who has spent years using Microsoft Word or Google Docs as the archetype of “word processing” or “collaboration” respectively has not developed neutral, transferable skills, but has become a future customer. This is not a conspiracy, but rather the way markets work. Microsoft and Google both offer heavily discounted or even free licences to educational institutions, knowing that brand loyalty formed in childhood tends to persist into adulthood and the working world.
