The Cognitive Load of It All, or the Response Matrix [US/pols, prepping, Ω] by @sidereaSiderea, Sibylla Bostoniensis

"As our country slides into catastrophe, part of what a lot of people are struggling with is the sheer overwhelm of all there is to deal with cognitively, so it might be helpful to have a high-level overview, on a meta-level, of what all there is, just to help grapple with it all. This is not a map, this is like the coordinate system that gets overlaid on an old-school paper map"

Interested in unique comic-related artifacts? I have an array of cool things at glog.glennf.com/hcwm-store – four-color separated molds for 1970s Peanuts strips, an authorized Zippy the Pinhead letterpress print, press sheets from my book, and a rare “Sparky” signed Schulz book!

Pinkish printing mold material (mat or flong) with a Peanuts Sunday strip from 1976 impressed into it showing Linus teaching Sally how to play football. The strip is in half-page newspaper format.Letterpress print and “flong” re-creation of the Oct. 14, 1991, Zippy the Pinhead comic strip in which Zippy and self-insert character Griffy are discussing technological transformation. The print is on high-quality paper and contains text with the title of the strip and additional details.Book open to endpapers with dust jacket text at left and inscription and signature “For Mike with friendship—Sparky (your hockey pal)” at right in large handwriting in marker.Full press sheet from How Comics Were Made shown hung by clips and displays eight pages of the book with a variety of detail, including a printing plate, color wheel, and original colored cartoon art.

Recently I've been working on a fork of libansilove and ansilove-c that adds support for using fonts and color palettes derived from the Atari ST programs ANSIterm and FANSI.

FANSI was a really slick ANSI editor for the ST from Eric March.

It was a godsend to me as a teen when it was released in 1994. Finally I had a way to draw my own ANSI art in the full 16 colors.

If only it had come out a few years earlier!

Four months after joining the Monolith Platform team, which was a great success, I’ve been headhunted for an immediate transfer to its sibling Ruby Architecture team. Wow. Amazing! This is the team whose work I’ve put on a pedestal for so long and I’ve wanted to join them for years! Just gotta live up to it now - and cope with even more far apart timezones.

We often speak of companies’ support of maintenance as a moral obligation. This is in some sense true, but given their incentive structure, it may not be a useful way to express it. Corporations are fundamentally amoral actors and if we want to modify their behavior we need to treat them as such. But! In a rational profit-maximizing world, large corporations ought to be *super* enthused about paying big gobs of money towards open source, both as risk management *and cost reduction*.

REVEALED by Correspondent @stevanzettisteven :verified:: We identified the operator of an overtly racist X account, "GlomarResponder," as Assistant Chief Counsel James Rodden, based on an overwhelming number of biographical details matched through publicly available documents, other social media activity, and courtroom observation. texasobserver.org/ice-prosecut

If you are new to organizing, Small Town Organizing for Anarchists has good information about how to form a working group for direct action and/or mutual aid.

sproutdistro.com/catalog/zines

Once you've got your working group together and ready to take action, Don't Just Do Nothing To Counter Fascism has some good, specific suggestions.

Focus on efforts will have the most sustained impact. Build systems that can support other action.

Even though *itself* has sound security - taken in isolation - it's always moored in an ecosystem (that of smartphones which run or ) which, by default, have set up to shoulder-surf Signal, sending reports back to the mothership. In , that AI is called " Intelligence", and in , it's called Assistant. Repeat, these are on by default. *Only a small percentage of your family, friends, colleagues, and fellow country-persons will pain-stakingly disable these.*

Sure, Signal itself is secure by default, but "a chain is only as strong as its weakest link". And the weakest link is the ecosystem which Signal is moored in - that of smartphones policed and patrolled by AI, which report back to their respective motherships *in a strong majority of cases*.

Alternatives like (for normies willing to open their wallets/purses to rent an auto-crypt-compatible email address) and (easily free to use, however realistic and mature only for non-iOS/#MacOS-users at present) have comparable E2E encryption. Deltachat and XMPP *don't* require smart-phone "moorings" - thereby making it much more realistic to dodge the almost-pervasively AI-patrolled ecosystems.

It’s so adorkable when science articles mention temperatures like “100 million ℃” and them helpfully add “(180 million ℉)” so that Americans who have been to the core of the sun (or Melbourne) can correlate that figure with their lived experience.

I really think that America could do with Watching Pink Floyd's The Wall again.

Most especially: "In The Flesh", "Run Like Hell", "Waiting for the Worms", "Stop" and "The Trial".

They should, in particular, consider the visuals that are part of the stadium adaptation. The symbolism is pertinent to their current leadership.

For example: youtube.com/watch?v=0y4lpZ1Fhv

It doesn't get much more obvious than that.

I have been laid off due to organizational restructuring for efficiency.

If you need a UX Writer or an specialist (8+ years of fulltime experience in the latter) or have leads to that end, let me know. Especially as I need to sort out ability to pay my mortgage etc. Ideally remote/WFH from the US, as I am a citizen; but if you have leads in the EU please let me know.

Wenn Verbrecher als psychisch krank markiert werden, dann können diese ja quasi nichts dafür Verbrecher zu sein, denn sie sind ja krank;

Ich bestreite nicht, dass 1 Korrelation vorhanden sein könnte;

hieraus eine Ursache zu konstruieren ist perfide!

@palestinepalestine group

"In a world where western powers selectively define ‘good’ and ‘bad’ political actors to serve their geopolitical agenda, martyred Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar is demonized for resisting a brutal and illegal occupation, while Syria’s new Al-Qaeda-linked president Abu Mohammad al-Julani is rebranded as a statesman"

Today I learned that x86 has a floating point version of the `nop` instruction, called `fnop`. It does nothing, but unlike the regular `nop` it uses the floating point unit to do nothing.

Greetings! I'm an electrician in training in Kelowna, BC. I am a proponent of open source software and have been tinkering with computers and Linux since the 90's. On Mastodon I'm interested in Canadian culture and current events. I like to post photos of my cat Hudson and my nature walks. When I visit a place, my itinerary is filled with independent bookstores, coffee shops, record stores, craft breweries and restaurants.

The and Experience (ICE 🧊) 2025 Call for paper is out! ice-workshop.github.io/cfp.txt

ICE 🧊 will be co-located with @DisCoTecConfDisCoTec and take place in , 🇫🇷 on June 16th (discotec.org/2025/satellite/ic).

This workshop is very dear to me: instead of the usual "submission ⇉ (rebuttal ⇉) review" flow, it uses a very original selection procedure (discotec.org/2025/satellite/ic), where PC members and authors discuss and collaborate for the greater good ⇆.

This year again we have an amazing program committee (discotec.org/2025/satellite/ic), an amazing invited speaker (Kirstin Peters, from Augsburg University) and welcome submissions until April 9th, 2025 ⌛.

ICE's Programming committee is composed of

    Franco Barbanera (Dept. of Mathematics and Computer Science - University of Catania, 🇮🇹 )
    Manel Barkallah (University of Namur, 🇧🇪)
    Matteo Cimini (University of Massachusetts Lowell, 🇺🇸)
    Farzaneh Derakhshan (Illinois Tech, 🇺🇸)

    Lorenzo Gheri (University of Liverpool, 🇬🇧)
    Lucie Guillou (IRIF, Université Paris Cité, 🇫🇷)
    Ping Hou (University of Oxford, 🇬🇧)
    Andrew K. Hirsch (University at Buffalo, SUNY, 🇺🇸)
    Jonas Kastberg Hinrichsen (IT University of Copenhagen, 🇩🇰)
