being terminally online is an affliction that can creep up on you slowly
what's some ways you make sure not to be online too much? —
@epsi@akko.wtfsip 🍺
I say this fully agreeing that being terminally online is most often detrimental, but it always felt to me like trying to just avoid being online can often treat the symptoms rather that the causes. So I tend to focus instead on addressing the things that have been neglected or the potential to be as a result.

Things like prioritizing spending quality time with Lily, or having quiet time finishing personal projects, taking time to stretch and stay healthy. Just making sure I've met all my needs outside of just being on socials, y'know? I feel it can be easy to just avoid being online and still neglect things otherwise.

One of the most impactful things that non-US people can do to protest what the US is doing is to NOT TRAVEL TO THE US. Have family meet you elsewhere. Change your vacation destination. Don’t attend conferences and conventions here (go virtual instead). Vote with your wallet and your feet: don’t bring your Euros, Yens, or Pesos here.

Passenger tallies don’t lie. Hotel occupancy numbers don’t lie. Conference attendee totals don’t lie. YOUR ABSENCE WILL BE COUNTED and you will be missed.

Your withholding of your presence and your money will motivate business owners to pressure the administration to change their tune.

Lee Dogeon @moreal@hackers.pub

A council of crows convened on the tree in the neighbor's yard.
From the remaining branches of a tree, they had a lively discussion
A contractor had pruned many of the majestic branches
and left these branches of the tree in a pile

A crow spoke up, declaring what has happened here was no accident
The other crows continued to echo this call for action
This tree has weathered great storms of our many generations
This tree has protected and provided us with many fruits
The branches removed can never been replaced

In these uncertain times
What happened to this tree shall be remembered
A garrison of mosquitoes has been activated
And some are already on patrol
We must remain vigilant and protect those who have protected us

(based on a true story within the last hour)

One of the many great trees pruned by a neighbor's contractor

You read that right. 75% of scientists are considering leaving the US. Forgive me (not really) if I'm struggling to understand exactly how this is making the US anything other than diminished, stupid, and ill.

Today we're going to talk about something that one of us has considered buying in the past, but opted for a smartphone with /e/OS instead. But since we like the concept and design, let's talk about Punkt 🇨🇭, the "detox" and pro-privacy smartphone 📱.

Do you think we really need all those apps that are installed in our smartphones?

In our world of "app-obesity", Punkt offers a breath of fresh air with a simpler approach to technology.

Petter Neby 🇳🇴, a Norwegian entrepreneur, founded Punkt in 2008, a company that create products that focus on the things we really need without any of the distractions we don't.

Punkt is based in Switzerland 🇨🇭, it had around 50 employees and offers 2 different mobile models:

The 1st is the MC02. It has basic digital tools and focuses on privacy and security - email, calendar, contacts, notes, storage and a built-in VPN. They have an agreement with , which comes pre-installed. This model has a subscription and costs around CHF 12/month (1st year free).

The 2nd one, the MP02, is a classic . The interface is 100% text-based, with no icons, and it has the most basic functions of a telephone.

devices use AphyOS, an OS based on developed by Apostrophy AG 🇨🇭 ( apostrophy.ch).

Check their website to see all features:

MC02 smartphone in black and white. It shows the main screen that displays:
Thursday, 2 November
10:30
9 icons with name, consisting of:
Aply Store, Calendar, Contacts, Digital Nomad, Files, GMS Wizard, Mail, My Account, TasksA MP02 green mobile phone on a tree. In the background, it looks like a beach landscape. The telephone has a small screen on the top, and below it has a keyboard with numbers and some short icons that activate functions.

I have to say, I am really disappointed Devin Townsend's featured AI-generated art projections. They were uncanny and distracting at best even if you look past the ethics of it. And now it's occupying my mind and distracting me from talking about the actual music of his 10 years in the making project...

1: eggs on toast. only had enough butter for one slice so it sucked.
2: cornflakes. well, whatever aldi calls their generic cornflakes, at least.
3: bothered in the really? so it can becomes after becomes terribly, not very too at the.

Yuh app from Swissquote temporarily disabled Play Integrity API enforcement due to complaints from GrapheneOS users and is reimplementing their security checks with support for GrapheneOS based on grapheneos.org/articles/attest. We removed it from the list of apps banning GrapheneOS.

Help me, of the Fediverse!

I love big, games where you travel to lots of places and explore different terrains and people groups — the classic examples being games like the (, ) and .

My only platform is my . What other games should I look at that wlll give me this experience? Bonus points if (like Skyrim and unlike Fallout) the worlds are beautiful.

Old games are just fine, BTW.

So far, Atomfall is quite fun. ~1.5 hr in and I've mostly been exploring and stealthy around the initial arrival area. Pretty graphics. Always explore behind waterfalls. I should probably go and actually start following up on the various leads I've uncovered, though...
