高尾山に行ってきて、薬王院ちかくでちょっと登ったところにシベリア抑留者供養碑があったので寄ってみた。シベリア抑留者の供養碑は一枚目の写真で見てのとおりのものだけど(「嗚呼シベリア鎮魂歌」という歌がパネルにあった)、そのすぐ隣に「満蒙大陸林業人供養塔」というものがあり、昭和49年に建立されたものだった。碑文の前半を抜粋すると次の通りである(句読点は適宜おぎなった)。
"近代日本の国策に則り、曽てアジア大陸の一角で満蒙林野の正規経営に挺身すべく、官民一体の民族の大移動が行われた。しかし残念ながら敗戦により雄図虚しく祖国に帰還せざるを得なくなった。その間国境を越えた物故の五族協和同人は、多数に上っている。この「満蒙大陸林業人供養塔」は、これら物故者の英霊に供養を捧げ、その冥福を祈るために満蒙に住んだ官民林業関係者が悉く参画し、全魂こめた体制で建立したものである。(...)"
「近代日本の国策に則り(...)官民一体の大移動」とは言うまでもなく植民地化の歴史そのものだけど、当事者たちや関係者の意識としては、満州とはアジア近代化への貢献なのだという意識なのだろう。敗戦によってその信念が揺らぐことはなかった。日本的すぎてショックでもなんでもないけど、パレスチナの地に入植を続けるイスラエルの人たちの意識もこのようなものだろうかと考えていた。

What’s best to repair this? I have wood glue, pva glue and superglue but will happily buy a recommended product.
I’m also not adverse to taking it somewhere for repair if that’s the best thing to do!
