그리고 미국은 칠레에 대해 단기산업신용 축소를 저지르고, 투자를 줄이며, 자본을 유출하기 시작했습니다. 이러면서 가뜩이나 자립경제를 시행하려 했던 칠레의 구리 산업은 절단나게 됩니다. 설상가상으로 구리 가격까지 70년 대비 반토막이 나면서 뭔가 할 수도 없어졌죠. 가뜩이나 기술이 부족해서 성급한 국유화 과정에서 생산 차질이 생기는데, 수출수익까지 감소하니 외환보유액이 급감하고 외채 상환 압박이 점점 증가했습니다. 이 시기 IMF는 칠레에게 긴축을 요구하는 한편 모조리 개방하는 미국식 해법을 강요했지만, 통하지 않았죠.

토머스 E 스키드모어의 현대 라틴아메리카에 따르면 그런 미국의 자본 침탈에도 불구하고 구리는 칠레 경제를 주도했으며, 1956년에 구리는 수출의 절반을 차지했고 구리회사 과세 수입이 정부 예산 전체의 5분의 1에 달할 정도라고 말하고 있습니다. 사실상 구리가 돌아가야 칠레 경제가 돌았죠. 그런데 우리는 1970년 9월 CIA 국장과 당시 대통령 닉슨 간의 대화에서 칠레에 대해 "경제를 비명지르게 하라(make the economy scream)"는 정보공작에 천만 달러를 먼저 가용할 수 있고, 필요시 더 쓰라 했던걸 알고 있어요.

칠레 노동자들의 일자리도 없었고, 장비와 부품을 죄다 미국에서 실어날라 오면서 칠레 제조업계가 수주할 작업도 그렇게 많지 않았으며, 막대한 이윤의 대부분이 칠레에 투자되지 않고 미국에 있는 모회사로 송금되었습니다. 아옌데가 Codelco라는 국영회사로 구리를 죄다 가져왔으나 문제는 앞서 말한 구리의 변동성도 문제였습니다. 우리는 1973년에 뭐가 왔는지 알고 있죠. 바로 오일 쇼크입니다. 실제 1971-72년의 구리 가격은 70년 대비 드라마틱하게 주저앉았습니다. 70년 11월에 당선된 아옌데에겐 머리가 아픈 일이 아닐 수 없죠.

구아노는 이후 질소고정법의 대중화와 함께 과거와 같은 위상을 가지진 못하게 되었지만, 그 자리엔 구리가 들어오죠. 구리는 Dr.Copper라는 말을 들을 정도로 현대 산업, 특히 전기를 사용하는, 에 굉장히 큰 역할을 수행합니다. 구리의 수요와 가격을 보면 향후 경제 전망이 보인다고도 할 정도입니다. 60-70년대 당시, 전 세계가 전기를 쓰고 칠레는 이 구리의 힘으로 남미에서 가장 잘 사는 나라에 꼽힐 정도로 급성장했습니다. 이 시기엔 소위 '전기화'와 '전신화'가 세계적으로 널리 진행되며 구리선 수요가 엄청나게 늘어났었거든요.

겉보기에 칠레는 아옌데 집권 당시 경제가 망가진 것 처럼 보입니다. 그리고 신자유주의의 모범생이었던 피노체트 정권에서는 경제가 살아난 것 처럼 보입니다. 하지만 이는 얄팍하게 해석할 수 있는 것이 아닙니다. 먼저 구리를 봅시다. 칠레는 안데스 산맥 일대에 자리한 나라라 원래 구리 매장량이 많은데, 1879-1883년 사이 볼리비아/페루 연합군과의 전쟁 과정에서 안토가파스타, 타라파카, 아리카, 타크나 지역을 병합하게 되죠. 이 전쟁은 구아노 채취지를 놓고 일어난 '새똥 전쟁'이란 이름으로도 알려져 있습니다.

피노체트가 죽었음에도 그 망령은 칠레를 떠돌고 있습니다. 그런데 말입니다. 이 망령이 왜 대한민국에까지 흘러 들어온건지 알 수 없습니다. 민원정 교수는 칠레에 대해 "피노체트 독재 시절에는 신자유주의의 모범생이라는 칭찬도 들었다."고 평가했고, 피노체트 지지자인 호세 카스트를 누르고 승리한 가브리엘 보리치에 대해 "동거녀와 함께 문신 새긴 팔을 치켜들 때 주가는 폭락하고 환율은 널을 뛰었다. 공산당과 거리를 둔다지만 어른 눈에는 불안하다."라고 평가했습니다. 우리는 이런 말을 자주 들어봤습니다. 이명박을 추종하던 이들 말이죠.

어떻게 쓰는지도 모르겠었던 투명성보고서 써보니까 Claude Skills가 왜 좋은지 좀 실감한다... 문서 작업하는거 자동화하는거 관련해서는 사실상 python-docx, openpyxl, xlsxwriter, python-pptx, reportlab, PyMuPDF, pdfplumber 스크립팅하는거 wrapper 였을 뿐이었고...

박근혜를 잡아넣은 검사가 극우 내란수괴가 되고, 한 번 끌어내린 트럼프가 재집권하는 따위의 퇴행이 이루어진 걸 보고 나니, 그에 앞서서 몇 가지 상쾌한 이벤트들이 있었던들 그것을 민주주의의 승리라고 섣불리 불러서는 안 되는 것이었다고 생각하게 된다.

In the last ~6 months someone linked to their blog about using JS-free custom elements for page structure and style in place of a methodology like BEM, e.g. using `<my-element>`/`my-element {}` instead of `<div class="my-element">`/`.my-element {}`. Might have referenced [HUG CSS](gomakethings.com/hug-css-how-i) as well. I'm sure I bookmarked it but I'll be darned if I can find it again. Pointers please?

My favorite CSS boilerplates/frameworks/whatever include base styles for various HTML elements, some component styles for commonly used components (like nav menus and things), and some utility classes for nudging and tweaking the UI. I don’t know if you’d call them classless+ or Class-based-lite or what, but they sit somewhere in the middle.

2017년 이후의 여러 흐름으로 경험한 것은, 민주주의의 승리를 쉽게 말해서는 안 된다는 사실이다. 아무리 거국적 분위기가 그럴싸해 보여도 차별, 혐오, 증오, 선동이 방치되는 이상 전선은 언제라도 후퇴할 수 있다. 민주주의의 승리는 선거 한두 번이나 악당 몇 명의 처벌로 달성되는 것이 아니다. 나는 견고하고 불가역절인 사회대전환을 원한다. 빠르고 확실하면 제일 좋으나, 둘 모두를 동시에 달성할 수 없다면 확실하기라도 해야 한다.

A Molecular Understanding for Sustainable Future

Recent studies on have focused on , microbes that thrive in high temperatures, while , which prefer cold environments, have received less attention. However, interest in cold-adapted microbes, especially those in polar regions, has increased significantly in recent decades.






Given that much of Earth’s biosphere remains below 5°C, psychrophiles likely outnumber thermophiles. Oceans, covering over 75% of the planet, maintain deep water temperatures between 2–4°C. Antarctica offers both terrestrial and aquatic cold habitats, including ice that melts seasonally. Other cold ecosystems include permafrost, alpine soils, cold deserts, marine sediments, glaciers, and sea ice. This book explores microbial diversity and adaptation in extreme polar environments, emphasizing their potential for biotechnological applications. It presents a comprehensive overview of molecular diversity and genetic adaptations in cold-loving microorganisms. The chapters detail representative microbial groups, their habitats, and survival strategies in frigid conditions. It is designed for scientists interested in how life persists in extreme cold. To survive in such harsh climates, polar microbes have evolved specific regulatory mechanisms to respond to environmental stressors. Over the past decade, research has uncovered microbial responses to anthropogenic challenges like UV-B radiation, nutrient scarcity, desiccation, heavy metals, and temperature extremes. These studies have provided the basis for understanding gene regulatory pathways involved in morphological, physiological, and metabolic adaptations.

닷넷은 8.0이후로 Microsoft만이 아니라, Canonical, RedHat 등 각 리눅스 배포판 관리자들이 Microsoft를 대신하여 본인들의 배포판 OS에서 잘 작동할 수 있도록 검증 과정을 거쳐 독자적으로 빌드하여 패키징을 하고 있습니다.

그 덕분에 매우 유의미한 발전이 하나 있었는데, IBM 메인프레임 (s390x)과 IBM PowerPC (ppc64el)에서도 우분투 리눅스를 사용하면 이제 닷넷 10을 아주 손쉽게 apt install dotnet-sdk-10.0 명령어 하나로 바로 설치해서 쓸 수 있게 됩니다.

Huh. Just chatted in person with someone who's been on for a while, now, who honestly thought that all the Mastodon domains were run by Mastodon. And having a different domain was, like, just a vanity thing to look cool. It only came up because they were complaining about an issue they were having, and they were on a smaller server (not naming it for anonymity), so I suggested contacting their server admin about the problem. I was surprised when they answered "Dude nobody at big companies reads those reports. It just all goes to AI or whatever." It took some actual convincing to get them to believe that the server they're on does, in fact, have a living breathing human admin who can be talked to.

Anyway, folks, support your server admins and moderators. With money, where you can. They're almost certainly getting messages from users who think that reporting things to an admin here is exactly like reporting stuff to Facebook or Google. IE: screaming at a giant faceless entity who's never going to care or do anything about whatever your problem is.
