But it might be a good time to focus some attention and write some meaningful investigative news on WoW64 in wine, containerization for games, Steam for x64 and so on

In the i686 discussion in #Fedora we currently hear quite a lot of voices in support for the Steam client, but not that much of other use cases.

If you have anything specific using i686 packages on Fedora, which is _not_ Steam, this is a good time to mention it, so that your use cases are not lost.

I'm a programmer and #freesoftware enthusiast. I've been using #linux as my main desktop and #emacs as my... everything... since 2008. I started off with a lot of distro hopping, my journey took me through #ubuntu, #fedora, #zenwalk, #gentoo, and #exherbo before settling on #archlinux, now with #guix on top.

Other than that I've enjoyed writing things in #CSharp, #PHP, #Python, #JavaScript, #Ruby, #Groovy, and several other languages.

Over 90% #Python packages in #Fedora were built successfully with Python 3.14.

The biggest blocker for the rest seems to be pydantic.

My guilty pleasure is old IT books (can I hashtag it as #RetroComputing ?). So I bought another treasure. It's a Russian translation of "Red Hat Fedora 4 Unleashed" by Andrew Hudson et al. Pretty huge tome (~1100 pages) from 2006. Blessed times indeed.
It covers everything from installation to administration to desktop usage to Python/PHP programming (in a nutshell).
Sweet bonus is a Fedora 4 installation DVD.
Rest assured, I immediately proceeded to the installation in a VM.

I was thinking about what Linux distribution to use for my servers (currently #Debian). My needs are:

• widespread, so I can find answers quickly
• stable updates, but not rolling release
• good Podman support
• easy to build packages for and/or many good custom package repositories

I then realized that #Fedora ticks pretty much all the boxes for me, and the only reason I don't use it is because I'm biased towards it as a desktop-only distribution (which it obviously isn't).

I guess I'll try it out on one of the servers

For the last couple of days I have been working on this. A prototype for a 3D platformer/ adventure game where players take control of a fella with a humongous hammer.

I am still working on the basic controls for the player character, but I already like how it is shaping. Hopefully next week I will have them all ready to start creating some enemy/environment interactions.

So I've attached a USB to serial adapter to my laptop and hooked it up to the user port of my C64. After four lines of BASIC it actually displays a login prompt! How cool is that? Apart from the fact that the encoding is totally broken and the whole thing runs at only 600 baud.

Pressing the power button on my laptop no longer respects my dconf parameter:

It asks me if I want to shut down instead of suspend.

Certain models of Lenovo laptops now ship with Fedora and Ubuntu Linux. This is done to keep costs low and cater to developers or IT professionals who heavily rely on Linux. Another reason could be the increased unpopularity of Windows 11 in recent times due unwanted features like "AI" or "Recall", but that is just my own wild guess ;) LOL. Would you buy it?

Upgraded to #fedora 42 on my Framework, now tidying things up. Had a repo conflict because I'd enabled a copr for ghostty, but that was straightforward to resolve.

I'm asking with an eye to stability for work use, and ease of upgrade (whether or not the twice-a-year upgrades ever break).

I'm thinking of switching my work machine over from Debian, and possibly using Fedora as the OS that I wean my coworker away from windows with.

After the last `dnf update` and system restart, I keep hearing the sound effect for (un)plugging of a USB drive from time to time. I don't see any other symptoms but I do see a bunch of these on the kernel log:
